🇬🇧🇦🇫 A pilot who saved 31 lives in a war zone now needs strangers to save his. Chris Gordon, 43, flew a Chinook helicopter in Afghanistan, shielding troops from enemy fire even after losing an engine. The Queen gave him a medal for it in 2013. Now he has aplastic anaemia, a rare disease where his bone marrow stops making blood. He needs a stem cell transplant within months. His brother is only a half match, so he's asking the public to join the donor register.

“When You are happy you will go to the Person you love, but when You are sad You will go to someone who loves you.” - Rumi Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi (1207–1273), widely known as Rumi, was a Persian poet, Islamic scholar, and Sufi mystic whose teachings have inspired generations for more than 700 years. Born in a region of present-day Afghanistan and later settling in Konya, in modern-day Turkey, he transformed profound spiritual experiences into poetry that continues to resonate across cultures. His understanding of love extended far beyond romantic affection, encompassing the soul’s longing for divine connection, spiritual truth, and unity with all existence. Rumi viewed love as the essential force connecting humanity and the universe. In his celebrated masterpiece, the Masnavi, sometimes described as the “Quran in Persian,” he explored faith, grief, longing, silence, and the soul’s journey toward enlightenment. His poetry suggests that suffering can lead to understanding, distance can intensify love, and even the most painful endings can open the door to transformation and renewal. Centuries after his death, Rumi’s poetry continues to reach readers around the world because it speaks to experiences that transcend cultural, linguistic, and religious boundaries. His words reflect humanity’s shared longing for love, belonging, understanding, and inner peace. More than a literary figure, Rumi remains a spiritual voice whose teachings suggest that some of life’s most profound truths cannot be reached through reason alone, but must also be experienced through the heart.
