McKinsey claimed in marketing materials that it had advised 🇨🇳 central government on boosting domestic consumption and reforming healthcare policy, raising fresh questions over the consulting firm’s denial that it ever worked for Beijing.
A McKinsey China website that was shut down in 2019 said that about 10% of its clients in the country were government agencies or non-profit groups.
“McKinsey’s impact in China goes well beyond our work in the corporate sector,” according to an archived copy of the website, mckinseychina.com, which now redirects to McKinsey’s main international site. “In the past decade alone, we’ve served over 20 different central, provincial and municipal government agencies on a wide range of economic planning, urban redevelopment and social sector issues.”
The marketing materials added that the firm had “advised several central government ministries on a range of high impact issues, from designing healthcare reform policies, to providing talent and leadership development programs for the next generation of government leaders, to crafting policies and specific measures aimed at spurring more domestic consumption”.
Bob Sternfels, McKinsey’s global managing partner, told a congressional hearing earlier this month that the firm had never worked for 🇨🇳 central government.

McKinsey-led think-tank Urban China Initiative advised China to deepen cooperation between business and the military and push foreign companies out of sensitive industries as part of a project for the 🇨🇳 central government in 2015.
The recommendations in the book “Scientific and Technological Revolutions around the World” (大势: 世界科技革命与产业变革趋势及其影响) by UCI, commissioned by 🇨🇳 National Development & Reform Commission, were among dozens of policies it proposed to boost 🇨🇳 technological prowess.
The UCI book — with a foreword by Lola Woetzel (one of McKinsey’s most senior partners in China) and drawing on work by McKinsey’s in-house research arm — formed part of the 🇨🇳 government’s research for its 13th Five-Year Plan covering 2016-20, which included “Made in China 2025”.
“Scientific and Technological Revolutions” claimed to provide “a road map to the opportunities for China’s science and technology development” during the 13th Five-Year Plan. It gave an overview of 14 technologies, from cloud computing to 3D printing to electric vehicles, that could help China achieve “dramatic productivity increases” as its investment-led growth model began to lose steam. China lagged behind advanced economies in these areas, but could catch up if Beijing pursued industrial policies including tax incentives and mandating the use of Chinese-made products in critical areas.
In all, it made 61 recommendations across 14 different technologies. One chapter covered advanced materials — a class of product including speciality metals and other materials used in cutting-edge manufacturing — where it recommended China accelerate the conversion of military technology into civil use and promote the two-way transfer and dissemination of military-civil material technology.
A reliance on foreign suppliers to build China’s cloud infrastructure could lead to the theft of sensitive data from military, economic and government departments and undermine national security, according to another chapter, so that the country should “strive to grow its domestic cloud computing industry and prevent core technologies from being controlled by foreign companies”.
The book also advocated for the 🇨🇳 government to provide more financial support for domestic internet of things companies so they could eventually take control of the industry from foreign firms.
The NDRC’s work on the 13th Five-Year Plan included an unprecedented level of foreign input. According to a 2015 speech by NDRC official Xu Lin, the government sought research from the OECD, the Asian Development Bank and “the famous American consulting firm McKinsey”, so as to “absorb a wide range of different viewpoints”. Among almost 100 research projects commissioned, Scientific and Technological Revolutions was one of the first two to be published by the NDRC.
Shanghai-based Lola Woetzel founded UCI in 2011 and co-chaired the initiative. She presented a personalized copy of the work to China’s then premier Li Keqiang at an NDRC symposium in Dec 2015. Woetzel has been based in China since 1985 and has been instrumental in building the firm’s presence in the country. She is one of six directors of the McKinsey Global Institute, the firm’s in-house research arm, a title she uses on the dust jacket to “Scientific and Technological Revolutions”, along with director of McKinsey & Company and co-chair of UCI.
In her foreword, Woetzel wrote: “Drawing on research of the McKinsey Global Institute and the Urban China Initiative, we hope this book provides useful input for the planning and development of China’s technology enterprises and government institutions. We believe there is great potential for China’s science and technology in the years to come!”
At a congressional hearing this month, McKinsey’s global managing partner Bob Sternfels denied allegations that McKinsey had done work for the CCP or for 🇨🇳 central government.

Let's be clear. The true #HK Govt estimated deficits for 23-24 and 24-25 are $173.3bn and $143.8bn and will be partly funded with an extra $167.5bn of net debt, much of the bonds being ironically labelled "sustainable". 1/2

Exclusive: Half of Guizhou Province in southwestern China has been ablaze, yet reports about it are scarce.
How is it possible that over 200 fires erupted simultaneously?
The culprit could be the CCP's big data centers, and Apple's iCloud Guizhou center is also in the fire-affected area...

Remember what they have done! They will now blame anyone other than themselves. There is plenty of blame to go around. Remember who took your rights away, and who pushed for mandates? Where were the politicians who often exempted themselves but didn't protect you! Even if the vaccine was 100% safe and effective, you should have had the right not to get it without penalty. From locking down businesses, mask mandates, social distancing to vaccine mandates, it's been your freedom that has been under attack. Unfortunately many lives have been damaged and lost due to this fiasco. Unfortunately there are many more years ahead of us to discover other harms from this.
God help us all!

Ivermectin is often recognized–2nd to penicillin–for having the greatest impact on human health. Its discovery even won the Nobel Prize.
But propagandists told you it was “horse dewormer.”
Out of 43 effective medicines for COVID, the ones approved had something in common: They were all outrageously expensive, in the many hundreds, if not, thousands of dollars.
Dr. @PierreKory testified:
"As of today, there have been 420 controlled trials studying hydroxychloroquine in Covid. That includes over half a million patients with ivermectin. There have been 100 controlled trials with over 225,000 patients.
"And summary analyses of these evidence bases all show large magnitude, statistically significant benefits in all important outcomes.
"Yet in this country, ivermectin is considered an ineffective horse dewormer, and hydroxychloroquine, the drug of fringe quack, right-wing anti-vaxxers."

On Friday last week the Court of Appeal made a significant ruling that upheld a previous High Court judgement that the New Zealand Defence Force's workplace Covid-19 vaccination mandate is unlawful.
Since then, just one online media outlet has reported this ruling. This solitary report was also behind a paywall - so not accessible to the vast majority of the public.
No other mainstream media outlet has made any mention of this ruling which clearly identifies that people’s rights and freedoms were significantly eroded by an unlawful direction from the previous government.
It is unbelievable that nothing was mentioned on the television main news channels, radio, or other online platforms.
The significant finding of the Court of Appeal included upholding a previous ruling in High Court of the affect these forced mandates had on the New Zealand Bill of Rights.
New Zealand First has always believed that in any robust and enduring democracy an accountable and balanced fourth estate is essential.
However, instead of the public being informed of the facts and truth of a significant ruling from one of our highest courts, they have been exposed to a prime example of the unrelenting bias of much of our mainstream media.
There is no other logical reason or excuse as to why New Zealanders have not been properly informed.
This ruling has significant ramifications for the current Covid Inquiry, not only highlighting the inadequate terms of reference that were previously created under the last government, but also the significant ramifications for the justification of all previous and remaining mandates in all workplaces.
It is deeply concerning that New Zealand’s mainstream media has neglected to inform New Zealanders of this important and significant finding that directly affects New Zealander’s rights and freedoms in our democracy.

Data highlight difficulties in cutting Chinese exporters out of American supply chains
Mexico overtook China as the biggest exporter of goods to the US last year as Beijing circumvented steep tariffs imposed by the Trump administration and retained by Joe Biden’s White House. As a result of the tariffs, shipments arriving directly from China now account for less than 15 per cent of US imports, down from more than a fifth in 2017. However, some Chinese goods that would have been shipped directly to the US are still making their way to the country via Mexico — without facing the same levies.

New report out: for the first time in four years, we have evidence that transfers of Uyghur workers to other provinces have continued. In 2023 they were set to increase by 38%. Firms operating in China face a growing forced labor risk.
Other new findings:
- Forced labor transfers for 2023 throughout Xinjiang exceeded those from the previous year and surpassed state-mandated quotas.
- Higher-level policy and state planning documents indicate that coercive Xinjiang employment and poverty alleviation policies are to continue at least through 2025. XUAR state and media sources document that these policies continued to be implemented through January 2024.
- The “Unemployment Monitoring and Early Warning Mechanism” was expanded in 2023 to extensively track the income and work situations of the lower-income population.
- Xinjiang’s government has intensified employment and training requirements, aiming to ensure employment for every able person, as mandated in the 14th Five-Year Plan.
- Also in 2023, Xinjiang drastically expanded its skills training efforts. The state increasingly targeted groups traditionally not engaged in these programs, with a view to transferring individuals into work in sectors known to use forced labor.
- Land use rights, covering up to 90 percent of land in some areas, are being transferred away from local farmers to state-run cooperatives, forcing the local population into wage labor through coercive labor transfers.
In sum, the evidence documents continued and intensified coercive labor transfers between early 2023 and early 2024.
