Three-quarters of guide dog owners have experienced access refusals, myself included. I’ve been refused access to restaurants, shops and taxis. We joined other GDOs for the launch of #OpenDoorsForGuideDogs which encourages business to display the yellow sticker.

Although we are currently without our own dog, as a @guidedogs volunteer boarder, a beloved friend & guide comes to stay with us every now & then when their owner is on hols, filling a Golden Retriever sized hole in our lives....

Please Never ever ever grab a guide dog owner or cane user ever But most definitely certainly never ever do it when they’re getting on or off a train, it might look unnerving to you but trust it is often well rehearsed by the person, you can always ask if they need any assistance

just like that, 23 years done. I trained with @guidedogs Brandy at the (Redbridge) London training school on 2 August 1999. It couldn’t be more poignant as Sammy, my third dog retires in 30 days. I learn a new thing about my dog every day. You can never know it all.

This is Sam. She is 1 of 2 dual trained assistance dogs by both @guidedogs & @MedDetectDogs She is a guide dog and is also trained to give her owner a 5 minute warning of medical episodes, by detecting changes in the scent of her owner’s breath. Sam is a very good dog.

Shouting ‘it’s fine’ as your off the lead dog runs over and distracts my working guide dog, is actually far from fine. If you see a working guide dog, keep your dog away from it.
