If schools with the highest levels of SEND and disadvantage are consistently more likely to receive lower Ofsted judgements, it’s sending a dangerous message: inclusion carries risk. Schools opening doors widest shouldn't be the ones paying the highest accountability price…
I do not think this is something to celebrate and I worry about what it means for poor children in schools that are underperforming: theguardian.com/education/20…

‘Head teachers do one of the most important jobs in the world. They need to be under pressure to get it right. In any job, people who are not held to account start to slack. Ofsted’s job is to ensure that head teachers don’t.’ As a HT, I find this incredibly offensive.
Excellent and topical in the light of today’s rumours.
Class war on Ofsted will only lower school standards

Reposting this as we get close to starting the school year.
This genius list by the late and much missed Tim Brighouse should be the starting point for how our schools focus on the young people within them.

60-minute lessons in Key Stage 1 only exist because so many primary school leaders have precious little experience teaching this age range.
If they did, the timetable would look very different.

The @suttontrust finding coupled with how @Ofstednews framework is slamming disadvantaged and inclusive schools is a storm about to rage.
A non-inclusive system encouraged and praised by accountability measures that reward creating cultures where not all are welcome.

This weekend sees me celebrate a big milestone birthday and also reflect on almost 28 years of teaching and leadership. After working across 4 decades with our youngest learners in formal education, these things I know.

Heard of two schools who are having inspections this week, in primary, during SATs week. I think I just strained an eyeball I did such a giant eye roll. Anyone who has ever had to juggle the staffing & leadership SATs logistics in a primary school knows how utterly mad this is.

In case you missed it. Being inclusive and maintaining good behaviour is more expensive for the schools doing it but saves our country a great deal more.

Everyone talks about the same geniuses like:
Einstein, Tesla, or Hawking.
But for me, there's one man who stands head and shoulder above all.
His work laid the foundation for Isaac Newton's theories. Here's the untold story: 🧵

Secondary school pupils pre frontal cortex (rational part) isn't fully developed until their mid 20s.We often blame them for being poorly emotionally regulated, irrational, impulsive, but there is a very good reason. They process information with the amygdala. The emotional part🧠🌱
