Hamam al-Hammami is alleged to have started his “drift towards extremism and terrorism” while studying in Australia.
UAE prosecutors say he confessed to becoming acquainted with people connected to My Centre, Multicultural Youth Centre Ltd, after attending a mosque tied to RMIT in Melbourne.
That same centre received federal funding under the Community Language Schools Grants Program, run by Home Affairs.
