During the first nine months of 2026, the CPI is already up by 4%. That's more than the 3.4% rise during all of 2023 and the 2.9% rise during all of 2024. Republicans are lying when they say inflation has come down under Trump. Prices will rise more under Trump than under Biden.

Sept. CPI rose 0.6% (7.4% annualized), in line with expectations. YoY prices rose by 3.7%. Core prices rose 0.3% (3.7% annualized), which exceeded estimates, with YoY core rising by 2.6%, also above estimates. The inflation problem is getting worse as the Fed stays too loose.

The Making of Masterpieces — Ep. 5
In my book How Countries Go Broke: The Big Cycle, I laid out in detail the classic mechanical dynamic that serves as a template to explain how countries go broke, and I gave my projections for what would likely happen so that one could compare both of those with what is actually happening. My hope was that doing so would help people understand what is happening and anticipate what would likely happen and would motivate policy makers to make beneficial changes.
Since June 2025 when I published that book, the progression of the actual numbers and the bond market has been broadly consistent with the template and projections. Because of the seriousness of what is happening, I am compelled to lay it out again by conveying the linkages and the numbers, which I have done in my latest article. As always, I welcome your questions and thoughts.

Shocking stat of the day:
The combined wealth of the world’s tech billionaires surged +$845 billion in the first 9 months of 2026, the largest increase for this period of the year on record.
This brings the group's combined wealth to a record $4.6 trillion, accounting for 36% of the total wealth tracked by the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.
This is despite tech billionaires representing only ~20% of all members in the index.
For perspective, billionaires outside the technology sector lost a combined -$62 billion over the same period.
Fortunes in the consumer sector fell by -$279 billion, while those in communications declined by -$92 billion.
Americans accounted for 94% of the Bloomberg Billionaires Index's total net wealth gains in the first 9 months of 2026.
As a result, all 10 of the world's richest people have been American since September 10th, the first such occurrence since data began in 2012.
The AI boom is generating unprecedented wealth at the top.

Existing-home sales rose 1.5% from August but were down 2.2% from a year ago. More inventory is giving buyers greater negotiating power, while higher mortgage rates continue to limit affordability and slow sales activity. bit.ly/4ijxUOs #NAREHS

PAUL VOLCKER TOOK INFLATION FROM 14.8% TO 3% IN ABOUT 3 YEARS
Here's how he described it to Ray Dalio back in 2019.
When Volcker took over the Fed, inflation had been rising for more than a decade, and earlier efforts to fight it had been weak. He joked that the "Whip Inflation Now" campaign under President Ford "had more buttons than policy."
So he changed course. Interest rates went to 20%, unemployment hit 10%, and the U.S. went through its worst downturn since the Great Depression. People protested, and he held firm anyway.
"If we pussyfooted much longer, it was going to be 20%."
He said he got "plenty worried" in 1982, when unemployment was climbing and inflation still wasn't coming down. By that summer it finally broke, and the U.S. went on to a decade of strong growth with low inflation.
With Wednesday's CPI report expected to show inflation rising to 3.6%, it's worth remembering what it took the last time.

The AI buildout is now the biggest investment boom in U.S. history.
Financing it will cost $10.3 trillion from 2025 to 2032, an average of 3.63% of U.S. GDP every year, per a new Brookings study.
That's bigger relative to the economy than the canal, railroad, electrification, highway and telecom booms.
