Oooft. Hundreds of people have gathered in Sydney in the pouring POURING rain to stand in solidarity with abortion rights protestors in the United States following the overturning of Roe v Wade. @abcnews – at Sydney, New South Wales

I’m seeing a lot of posts saying people will die because Roe has been overturned. That is definitely true. But perhaps not for the reasons you think.

#UPDATE Emergency officials on scene just said they have discovered there is oil in the Allegheny River from the train derailment in Harmar Township. They said their priority now is to mitigate the hazard. The river is closed from Harmar Township to the Point.

A short time ago, representatives from Allegheny County, the Allegheny Valley Regional Emergency Management Agency and the @EPA provided an update on the Harmar train derailment which occurred earlier today.

It has been reported to journalists that the train was hauling sweet crude oil. We will continue to monitor the situation and ensure that we are collecting as much information as we can. 2/2

even in this country, I didn't think there would be a pattern of mass shootings at *elementary schools*. I thought we could hope for at least that much.

Kids don't turn queer because a teacher told them queer people exist. They turn queer because their older sister's best friend gave them Ani DiFranco's first two albums on cassette. Everyone knows this.

This is the tweet that gets me cancelled. In a medical emergency on a plane, I would rather be attended to by a paramedic than pretty much any doctor. We are not, for the most part, trained, equipped or prepared to deal with medical emergencies in that environment.

Books are so, so good. That we have this beautiful technology, that we have this art that has persisted for centuries, is such stupefying, mind-boggling grace.

One thing that's been a little hard is how the media has, very correctly, been lifting up the humanity of Ukranians who live in fear under Russian bombs. That should have also happened for Afghans, Iraqis, and Yemenis.

Given that another article about sensitivity readers is apparently imminent, I'm going to do a thread of things I've picked up in the many sensitivity reads I've done, with the aim of showing what it is we actually do, and how much what we do has been misrepresented.

When I lost my dad, someone gave me a piece of advice about grieving that I’ve never heard before but I think was the most important tip. DO NOT go cope with the pain with your favorite media. Find some absolutely garbage content you won’t ever want to touch again.

Anyone who passes judgment on print vs. ebook vs. audiobook is a lazy critic. It does not matter how you consume books as long as you read them.
