Many people still know us as "HDRI Haven" and search for our content on Google with this term - but beware, a scam artist is cloning our content on a similar domain, and earning ad revenue. Some months ago they even had a Patreon scamming people for "donations to help make HDRIs"

Very good advice for environment work. I would also add going outside to study the real world - that's where originality lies and I think too many people trawl through the same online reference as everyone else.
5 random tips for creating an environment art portfolio piece:
1
Some recent plein air paintings; I'm posting these on my recently resurrected Instagram page: instagram.com/gregory___smit… So if anyone is interested, you can follow the traditional media images there to keep it separate from the digital side #oilpainting #ships #pleinairpainting

A bit more progress detailing the cliff model and textures; I'll start adding in some particles next to liven it up with a bit of greenery. #b3d #CGI #blender #3denvironment #Blender3d #3dmodeling

A little demonstation of rock sculpting whilst I'm still fiddling with the cliff. Hopefully this gets the general method across. Nothing particularly special about it, but I've had questions both recently and on previous projects. #b3d #blender #Blender3d #3denvironment

Progress is slow as I start to work on the details, but since posting here has proved fairly useful in lending some structure to the process, here's a placeholder post of callout sheets explaining my direction for the cliff textures, and an example material. #b3d #blender

Some basic texture exploration, which also helps with starting to troubleshoot the model. Usually this starts the tricky part of a scene where everything becomes dull, grey, and horrible until the vegetation goes in. #b3d #Blender3d #3denvironment #3D #cgi

Still developing the cliff; it seems to be moving in the right direction. Most of it'll be covered with vegetation, so I'm not sure how far to take the model at this stage. #b3d #blender #3D #3denvironment

More [slow] progress on the #b3d cliff model. I may be here some time. #3dmodeling #digitalart #Blender3d

Current result of the lighting experiments. Now back to working on the cliff model. #b3d #Blender3d

More general progress on the #b3d scene. I think I'll take a break from the sculpting and start setting up the lighting next, which I'll base on the crisp details of my original ultra-resolution high tech VR-compatible holographic display sketch:

BG development and sky DMP; I'll work on the MG next and see how it all fits together before making adjustments. #b3d #3dmodelling

Blockout for a personal project in #b3d. Seeing if posting progress here helps with finishing things.

Do you hate Photoshop's new "Save As Copy"? Go to Preferences > File Handling > and check the 'Enable Legacy "Save As"' Now you can have a slightly better day today :)
