Katja Hoyer’s “Weimar” is a powerful and detailed reconstruction of a “stark and terrifying example of a collapsed democracy”. Brilliant review of WEIMAR in The Wall Street Journal @WSJ! 😁🥳

Twilight 2000: Operation Reset - and your current reality . . .
Parental Guidance Warning: This post contains geopolitical analysis.
One of my favorite roleplaying games is Twilight 2000, a post-apocalyptic military tabletop role-playing game published by Game Designers' Workshop in 1984-- while I was a junior in high school. You know GDW, the folks that brought you Traveller: Science-fiction Adventure in the Far Future.
The setting for the original Twilight 2000, is or was at that time, a modern-day Europe in the aftermath of conflict that saw the Cold War turn hot--witnessing the use of nuclear, chemical, biological and even good-old conventional weapons.
Through the years, more editions followed.
Of course, the Cold War dissipated under a crashing wave of freedom, or did it?
In 2000, Free League Publishing, based in Stockholm, obtained the license and created a new version where the Soviet Union survives the fall of the Berlin Wall. Tensions still rise and violence breaks out in central Europe in 1998. The game was released in November 2021 under the name Twilight: 2000 – Roleplaying in the World War III That Never Was, taking place in two settings of Sweden and Poland.
Expansions were to follow but Free League Publishing held up promotion and public-facing marketing because the game's premise—Russian/Soviet forces fighting a catastrophic war in Poland and Europe that develops into World War III—suddenly felt uncomfortably close to events occurring in Ukraine with the full-blown invasion of the former Soviet state by Vladimir Putin's Russian Federation forces in February 2022.
Perhaps you are familiar with Vladimir Putin? He is the maniacal ruler attempting to restore a Slavic empire due to uncontrollable ego.
Hostile Waters, Urban Operations, and The Black Madonna did emerge as game-supporting supplements despite the obviously increasing tension in Europe.
Contrary to Putin's efforts to stifle NATO, the alliance ironically expanded within two years of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, adding Sweden and Norway.
Free League Publishing is now creating another new expansion for Twilight 2000, Operation Reset. Availability has been pushed back until March 2027.
The new campaign reportedly centers on a devastated Warsaw and Stockholm, harkening to original Game Designers' Workshop supplement Ruins of Warsaw.
Perhaps we will see Operation Reset if a very real Twilight 2027 doesn't manifest in our current realm of existence.

Pedantic I know, but that's 11th armoured division, 8th Corp, they achieved all their objectives on the right flank of 30 Corp, liberating many towns along the way.
It's 2.15pm in Holland. Let's roll.
The guns open up. The ground phase ("Garden") kicks off in Belgium with a massive 350-gun Allied artillery bombardment.
XXX Corps armor starts its engines.
To succeed, the tankers must race 64 miles up a single, narrow, heavily defended two-lane highway in less than 2 DAYS.
There is NO margin for error - no margin for traffic jams or tactical pauses.
