Venable’s 3 best available pitchers today were Smith, Hicks, and Taylor, and all three failed. That pretty much eliminated our chances no matter what buttons you wanted him to push.
Predictably, he got too much credit for the four wins and too much blame for the two losses.
Live to fight another day. The sun will rise tomorrow. The Sox are one of 5 teams still in it. Saturday will be hear fast. Sleep well, my loves.
Make the game close and force them to put Cade Smith in. The more pitches you see him throw, the better chance you have to beat him in game 5, if the situation presents itself.
Today proves that the opener strategy is a cool thing to use once in a while...but as far as using it for a playoff run...
