The idiocy of that is they pretend social media exists in a vacuum and that traditional media isn't pushing for clicks and anger and excitement too And until they do, they're only babbling about the people in the corner of the room and not the crowd getting all the attention in the middle

The declaration presented by 🇫🇷 to the @UN Human Rights Council in support of the universal decriminalization of homosexuality now is endorsed by an absolute majority of the council’s member states (24 out of 47). The statement asserts that criminalization constitutes a violation of international human rights law and calls on countries that have not yet done so to repeal their criminal laws.

Corporate forces are bankrolling One Nation's surge, and the payoff could be $219m in public funding if current support levels remain. The party sells itself as anti-establishment, but its backers are the establishment. Various powerful corporate sectors, including banking, hotels, mining and fossil fuels, all get a mention in the One Nation space. "One Nation is commonly referred to as an anti-establishment populist party, but in reality it looks more like a clutch of mining and corporate lobbies in a trenchcoat." deepcutnews.com/p/the-corpor…

Zali Steggall calls out the toxic behaviour by politicians & media following the attack on Dr Helen Haines—from Pauline Hanson’s “revolting” cartoon targeting Lambie’s medical condition to the “appalling” radio shock jocks fueling their “aggression & anger” to listeners. 💯

Awful, awful news. Helen Haines is one of the nicest people you could ever meet. While this appears to be politically motivated violence, it is another attack on a woman in Australia, after more than 55 killings already this year through gender-based violence according to Australian Femicide Watch. That this is even a thing, requiring organisations to monitor the escalating trend, should be enough to mobilise major action. The level of misogyny, apparent hatred and violence against girls and women of all backgrounds is a national crisis, and should be confronted in that way. We need the political will to take meaningful action. Women’s rights groups point to a chronic inadequacy of funding, major gaps in services for women at risk and inadequate laws that fail to reflect the dangers and coercive behaviours women face in Australia today. Culture will only change when actions, policy and funding demonstrate the seriousness with which we take the issue of girl’s and women’s safety. Lots of love to Helen and family ❤️

Had breakfast this morning with a group of friends — all of them except me in the medical profession. Three men, three women. The mix among the men was interesting: one Muslim, one as Anglo-Australian as they come, and me (Indigenous). Two of the women were also very Anglo. My wife (Australian–New York Jewish) was there as well. The conversation turned to what happened to Helen Haines yesterday. She was struck by a car outside her electorate office in Wangaratta in what the Prime Minister has described as a deliberate act. She’s in a critical condition in hospital, and counter-terrorism authorities are involved. The motive is still being investigated. The Muslim man at the table was the first to raise it, and from there the discussion developed into something the whole group agreed on: Australia has a serious problem with violence against women, and a meaningful part of the current dynamic is being driven by Pauline Hanson for short-term political gain. The shared view was clear. If we actually want to address these issues, we have to deal with root causes. One of those roots is the politics of hate and division that Hanson continues to push. It’s not the whole story, but ignoring it doesn’t help.

And long before she set foot in parliament, Helen was a well known health worker, a trail blazing community midwife and a dynamic force for good who was beloved by so many people throughout her community Helen Haines literally helped bring thousands of rural babies into the world with her gentle smile and kind manner She is and always has been, the most decent and compassionate human

Everyday, so many of us show up to protect our democracy, build a safer future for our kids & grandkids - & be our best selves. Helen Haines is the very essence of this commitment - as so many have said. Thoughts are very much with Helen, her family & community. #auspol

Yesterday was a sad and shameful day in Australian history. Moments like these in Australia need to be a serious wake-up call. After the Port Arthur massacre action was taken to restrict access to firearms. For far too long the AFP and ASIO have ignored these right-wing groups and individuals who are openly using social media to spread hatred and civil unrest. It’s time to take groups like the Sovereign Citizen movement and other far-right extremism groups seriously. They are running rife in regional areas like Kempsey, Cessnock, Wangaratta, and hundreds of regional areas around Australia. Start with monitoring and dismantling the online spaces they use to communicate. @AusFedPolice Martin Bryant was from Grafton, Dezi Freeman was from Wadonga, and Gareth Train, Nathaniel Train, and Gareth's wife, Stacey Train were from Wieambilla in QLD. The pattern is clear. A current Kempsey Shire Councillor Noel Selby recently posted this hateful comment in a reply to a woman "pity he hadn't bashed you" from his personal Facebook account. The council will decide tomorrow if they will censure him but they haven’t forced him to resign yet. abc.net.au/news/2026-10-16/k… This is what has to change. As a society we can’t accept hateful comments like these as just part of the political discourse and be normalised. One Nation has built an entire political movement that fuels, and not just normalises this hate speech, but weaponises it. If we don’t come down hard on this now, then sadly we are going to experience far more acts of violence and civil unrest in this country. The time to act is now @AlboMP This is your Port Arthur moment.

Let this sink in… The skull had been taken to a local pub, where people used it as a communal ashtray, because they believed the remains belonged to an Aboriginal child. Their disgust and remorse only surfaced when they discovered that the skull belonged to a murdered white girl.

This needs to be widely known. No woman should support #Paulinehanson while every woman in Australia should applaud @JacquiLambie’s courage offering her own experiences of vaginal prolapse and bladder incontinence, a condition shared by 1000s of Aussie women.
Still shaking my head in disgust that #Pauline #Hanson #OneNation did this to Jacqui #Lambie.
