Water temps over 80 F and air in most of Southern California well over 100 for five days straight.
Hopefully the grid abides.

6:30 PM: The heat wave will begin Friday October 2 at 12 PM and last through next Thursday October 8 at 7 PM. This particular heat wave is a long-duration event. In combination, very warm sea surface temperatures make it feel even hotter than what the actual temperature will be. This 594 heat dome axis will expand over much of Central and Southern California bumping up temperatures from 104°- 110° during this lengthy duration.
It's pretty simple everyone will be sweating and feeling miserable as we start October 2026. Everyone going to those Halloween events across Southern California will have no relief overnight from the heat. Temperatures will remain 85° to 92° during the overnight hours, which can make it very difficult to sleep, and a lot of people will sweat during the overnight hours.
Make sure you’re drinking plenty of water and electrolytes. Please check on the elderly and your pets; make sure they have enough food and water. Please check on the new compromise as heat stroke or heat exhaustion can occur very easily. Also, there’s a possibility of power outages due to the severity of this heat wave because everybody’s going to try to cool off with air conditioning across our region. #CAwx #heatwave
Not safe to go outdoors in the entire Great Lakes region w/ hazardous air quality from record heatwave-jacked wildfires

In 1987, Costa Rica was 21% forest. Today it's 57%.
In the 1990s, Costa Rica passed a law that pays landowners directly for the ecosystem services their forest provides: carbon storage, watershed protection, biodiversity, soil stability. The payments are funded by a tax on fossil fuels.
Keep your trees standing and the government cuts you a check. Clear them and you lose the income.
Nearly a million hectares have been protected or restored under the program. Species that had retreated or disappeared from large parts of the country are recovering. The forest came back because the incentive structure changed, not because people were told to care more.
But it crashed the economy, right? Not at all.
Costa Rica became the top per capita agricultural exporter in Latin America. Tourism built around its forests and biodiversity became one of its largest industries. The economy didn't absorb the cost of keeping the forest. The forest became part of what grows their economy.
This is the version of the story most people never hear, the one where protecting nature and economic growth pointed in the same direction because we humans designed it that way.
It's not forests or the economy and it never had to be.

Got on during ‘70s and ‘80s when there was still a chance. Even scored a bucket on future NBA leading scorer (pre Jordan) Mr. Mark Aguirre.
Dunked over my white ass 4x straight in career-ending punishment.

Denmark had 37 KIA in Afghanistan and 6 in Iraq. Applied to the U.S. population, those KIA-casualty rates would amount to 2,035 dead and 330 dead respectively. A good ally that deserves better.

HOLY CRAP.
House Republicans are quietly slipping Section 453 into the spending bill — a provision that would give pesticide companies immunity from lawsuits for the harm they cause.
Brett Cooper is calling it out: this could shield tens of thousands of chemicals, many linked to cancer, Parkinson’s, and infertility.
MAHA is DEAD!
