Delighted that @moniqueroffey published by indie @peepaltreepress has won overall Costa for The Mermaid of Black Conch. I asked to review for @ST_Culture in the early summer and found it an immensely rewarding reading experience. Transporting...even when you’re stuck at home

First they said they needed data
about the children
to find out what they’re learning.
Then they said they needed data
about the children
to make sure they are learning.
Then the children only learnt
what could be turned into data.
Then the children became data.

This is a tough development for all authors and publishers - and small presses. Tabletops are heaving, review spaces are vanishingly rare - so if you do pick up a new book by an indie author, and love it, please make all the noise you can. It will help! theguardian.com/focus/2020/a…

The news is out! Huge thanks to our patron Dame Helen Mirren for donating her time to join the company of Steven Berkoff’s The Secret Love Life Of Ophelia, our first ever production made entirely for an online audience. #GTSecretOphelia #GreenwichConnects

Happy Windrush Day to the people who took the risk of leaving everything they knew behind to come and rebuild a country that has barely recognised their contributions. We’re grateful for you and we thank you.

First day on the river, is good to be back! During the several weeks of confinement you shared your #RiverMemories with us and they kept us afloat. We made a collage out of all your photos as a thank you for all the love we received. Let's now make new memories! #VirtuallyLondon

Will you be cycling more? Vessel passenger capacity will be reduced to accommodate social distancing but it will also enable us to carry more bikes than we can usually (between 15-20 subject to vessel type). This is double the capacity in some cases! 👇thamesclippers.com/servicech…

I've been thinking about what I can do to help in the current situation, beyond donating and spreading the word, important though that is. So I've decided I'd like to mentor an unpublished BAME author, particularly one writing crime/thriller fiction. (cont...)

You’re so right! Have enjoyed contributing to evaluation of previous years’ Book Festivals in recent weeks - look forward to seeing you back soon.
This is such fantastic news for our friends at @GreenwichTheatr. (Also everybody knows that good news is exponentially better in these times, right?)

Did you know the Victorians dyed butter yellow? Cheap butter was often made from sour cream and died with Annatto, a yellow food made from seeds of the achiote tree. Sinclair and Sons of Southwark sold this and here’s the bottle I found in the Thames. #mudlarking #londonmudlark
