Today, @GovernorVA Youngkin and I visited Grayson County and reaffirmed our commitment to Southwest Virginia after the recent storms and flooding.
Thank you to our first rescuers, utility crews, and the many volunteers assisting in the response. As more storms are forecasted this weekend, please follow the guidance from state and local officials.
I’m here in Grayson County with LG @WinsomeSears at the Independence Volunteer Fire Department to remind everyone to stay safe and make smart decisions. We have resources on the ground to help prepare for the upcoming storm and we will continue to monitor the forecast.

We must stop the cycle of violence and crime that is being enabled by some local governments. In Virginia, illegal immigrants who commit crimes will be turned over to ICE. Let me be clear, Virginia is not a sanctuary state. governor.virginia.gov/newsro…

If anyone tries to tell you there is no effort to defund the police in VA, do not believe them. Today House members, including a self-described socialist, filed budget amendments to defund local police, State Police + the school resource officer (SRO) program.

In 2019 @GovernorVA: "The SROs...hired through these grants not only make our schools safer, but also enhance our communities by building strong positive relationships with students, faculty and parents."
We need to keep the SRO program, funded on a bipartisan basis for 20 yrs.
Sen. Todd Pillion (R) is offering local school boards a support resolution. It comes after some lawmakers expressed to Gov. Northam's office that SRO funding should be lowered or eliminated. wcyb.com/news/local/southwes…
