Here is a press release on NZ's current ICU bed capacity from @anzics. The numbers reflect the reality on the ground (we have just over 170 staffed adult ICU beds). These are numbers NZ experts in intensive care medicine agree on @AndrewLittleMP

Any recommendations for resources on communication with critically ill patients and their families for a newbie ICU nurse? I guess a skill that is learnt with time but something to start from would be helpful! #NurseTwitter #icunurse
All dressed up and nowhere to go! Hard not to be disappointed that 1st day of first job as an RN (induction) postponed due to #COVID19nz. Lunchbox already packed! However Dog is thrilled that both mum and dad home for the day.

Great infographic showing the impact of COVID-19 on ICU resources in the UK. Thoughts are with all the ICU staff in places less fortunate than NZ who are stretched beyond breaking point and still giving patients their all #nursetwitter #COVID19 #icu #MedTwitter
#COVID-19 has required creating 2251 new ICU beds across the UK.
But the number of trained ICU staff hasn't risen to match.

Perfect solution when it's 35+ degrees - give up on productivity and hit the pub mid-afternoon for donuts and beers at @moonunderwaternz ! Couldn't resist this combination from @breeglamourcake and @garageproject, turned out to be a match made in heaven! #its5oclocksomewhere
When life gives you lemons you make marmalade.... And lemon curd and cordial and freeze some! Whilst I'm looking forward to my new job, I'm loving having a break from work and study for a while 😊🍋
Achieved two degrees this year but just as proud of this certificate that I was awarded at VoicesCo end of year show last night. Challenged myself this year by doing something new and outside of my comfort zone and it paid off, finding a new community and hobby I love 😁
Last time in #studentnurse uniform! It's been a tough 2 years but thanks to the support of this amazing class we made it - BN and MHSc ✔️ Now heads down and prepping for state registration exams next week before a well-earned break! #twodegreesintwoyears #nursingherewecome
Last day putting on this uniform as a #studentnurse. The last two years have flown by - looking forward to whatever comes next!

Vents are still difficult for me. There’s lots of physics and numbers and my brain just does not naturally work like that.
I’ve been working through vent details lately, and I thought I’d share some basics.
Corrections very welcome—I’m still training my brain in this stuff.

Very excited, and slightly nervous, to be starting my final placement as a #studentnurse in ICU on Monday :) any tips or recommended readings to help me hit the ground running and get the most out of this placement Twitter? @StNurseProject @WeNurses #NurseTwitter
Thanks mumma bear for sewing and sending me these masks (party and business edition!) for my bus trips to and from placement. Masks now mandatory on public transport here in NZ #COVID19
Taking time to recharge the batteries between final OSCEs and beginning my last placement as a #studentnurse! Feeling revitalised and ready. #BringItOn
Two long hard years of study - now we've heard that forecasted recruitment numbers mean >2/3 of us unlikely to get a new grad position as CDHB in crisis. Stress levels through the roof. Communication lacking, rumours flying. Union notably absent. stuff.co.nz/national/health/…
And suddenly, last assignment for my #mastersofhealthsciences is submitted. Now four days at work before a long-awaited week at my parents in #GoldenBay to relax and unwind. Then back into the last 5months of my #nursing degree!
Finishing final assignment of #MHSc pales into insignificance compared to this achievement today #studentlife
Yesterday we ventured further than our immediate neighborhood for the first time in five weeks (excluding my 5min drive to work) to be greeted by a Canterbury autumn in all its splendour. Don't let all the good work go to waste now NZ, we can do it ! #COVID19nz #alertlevel3
