On July 8th my colleagues and I discussed “The Essential Societal Role of Livestock, Today and Tomorrow” for the Livestock Symposium at the 2025 Meeting of the American & Canadian Societies of Animal Science in Hollywood, FL.
The presentations were recorded and videos are now available.
Knowing your presentation is not the same thing as knowing your subject.
Last week at Miami University, technology took away my speaker notes—and conversations caused me to substantially rewrite the lecture I'd come to give.

People assume "lab meat" looks like a ribeye coming straight out of a Petri dish.
Not. The only commercial product is an overpriced fake "chicken" nugget with only 3% cultured fibroblast cells, bulked up with oil, starch, and soy.
Not gonna happen. Don't believe the hype.

Yet they face growing pressures from land conversion & limited decision-making power.
Here are 6️⃣ ways governments & policymakers can support them.
