A bizarre bus encounter led to more than 100 cats being rescued, and there are still more in need of help.

Yglesias is voting for LBJ in 1964 and you're staying home because you believe US cold war policy is committing mass genocide under LBJ. Not hard for him to win this argument on your terms.
“The Matthew Yglesias of 1963 would have been telling [JFK and LBJ] don’t touch this civil rights bill. It’s unpopular.” I thought this was one of the more fascinating and important exchanges with @mattyglesias, where I challenged him on how far politicians should defer to polls on huge moral issues, and he pushed back on my analogy. Mehdi conflates bill approval with protest approval. "This civil rights bill" was popular in '63. It had +16 approval (54-38) by Aug. '63 & +30 (61-31) in Jan. '64 before its June passage. Desegregation was generally popular w/ >+30 support for SCOTUS anti-segregation rulings news.gallup.com/poll/3427/most…

I know “the right” prides itself on co-opting the methods of “the left” but doing “even the NYT concedes this point” as if it’s the same as Fox News or National Review is so pathetic lol
Even the NYT realizes how obvious this was…

A lot of the NM police shootings I see in the news are well justified and involve criminal "drifters" (often from out-of-state) who detonate and commit their final atrocity once they enter NM. It's an odd pattern, you see it again and again. "It's the light."
new mexico is finally number 1 in something!

Meta is issuing stock to finance the payment. This does not mean that Zuckerberg is paying the tax. It means Meta stockholders are paying the tax.
This is an insanely important development: Mark Zuckerberg and Meta are preparing to restructure the company so that Zuckerberg can pay the 5% one-time wealth tax he would owe if the billionaire tax passes in November. He has said he would leave the state. He obviously was bluffing. That's $10 billion to California's education and health system. Just from him. Jensen Huang has also said he'd stay, that's another roughly $10 billion. To be sure, some small number of billionaires will leave California, but most won't. What this also shows if that it is done on a national level, billionaires will fight it, but will ultimately fall in line.

President Trump strongly defends Vivek Ramaswamy’s ad featuring Amy Acton’s estranged mom. Trump: “That took a lot of courage to do but, essentially, what she was really doing was saving Ohio from making a truly horrible choice! The Press is trying to convince everyone that this Ad is bad, because it’s so good! Who wouldn’t use such an Ad? I would, it’s called, ‘hitting pay dirt.’”

"What do I owe society?", asked the guy in the green.
“I’m old. I’ve paid my home off,” said Ray Warner, a 72-year-old Akron resident. “Why would I pay property tax?” Across the country, homeowners are asking the same question and revolting against property taxes at a scale not seen in a half century. politico.com/news/magazine/2…

Not to go all Michael Tracey but the outrage over this is plainly driven by the perp / victim’s gender
A Berkeley chemical engineer who suffered years of unexplained illness discovered through a spy camera from Amazon that her coworker, David Xu, was poisoning her food and water with cadmium, a toxic heavy metal for nearly 18 months between 2017 and 2019. The victim experienced significant health problems and at times required emergency care at a hospital. Newly released video shows Xu appearing to put a substance in her water bottle in 2019. Xu was arrested that year and charged with attempted murder and two counts of poisoning, offenses that could have sent him to prison for life. But under a plea deal, the attempted murder charge and one poisoning count were dropped. Xu pleaded no contest to one felony poisoning charge and received two years of probation, with credit for one day served. He completed probation in March and is now seeking to have his felony conviction dismissed.

Hot take: Gay men will become to the GOP what Jews were to Ds. In many ways it’s already well underway It’s big that gays men will vote 70-30 R (b/c lol obvi not) but they will be disproportionately represented in Con intelligentsia There will be 3 dozen Bessents in 2035
I don’t really care about the Jane Doe Cornell 7 thing, lol. Gay men do that every day of the week and still have the ability to take responsibility for their decisions to take drugs and engage in somewhat dangerous behaviours. There are going to be instances where this happens, and it is never going to be clear-cut because that is not how promiscuous sexual encounters work. You can “all men” this and that, but wasting energy trying to demand clear consensual boundaries in group sex encounters when there are illicit drugs involved is just odd. And she is an adult. She could have literally gone home after the bar, but she instead went to a frat house. Gay men are able to acknowledge when they make mistakes like this while also obviously holding their perpetrators accountable. Why can’t some women?
