There are probably tens of thousands of people, even in Ireland, who have websites on PHP 7.4 because they basically never bothered to ask their hosting company to update them. I imagine that they are worried now.

Four phone calls already this morning about the PHP security scare, all from people who wouldn’t know PHP if it landed in their back garden. At least people are taking security seriously. Even if they’re not entirely sure what they’re worried about! 😄

I am listening to U2 as it came up on my Spotify feed. I think I have possibly listened to 2-3 songs from them in in last 10 years. Loyal to them as one of Ireland's greatest bands but never warmed to them. Fontaines are Irelands new U2.....

Quick job for this week: log into wp-admin and open Users. Anyone who left the business? An admin account nobody recognises? Delete it. Old logins with old passwords are an open door you forgot you had.

Exact match domains still work, whatever the naysayers say. You can spin one up fast and test it. If it does not work, you have not done anything to your own brand. We do it a lot for clients as part of their marketing 🎯

Microsoft has found 3,000+ hacked websites, many of them WordPress, showing visitors fake "fix this error" prompts that install malware. Via @TheHackersNews If that popup appears on your site, it is your name on it. Patch those plugins this week. thehackernews.com/2026/10/cl…

Shopify is a really effective eCommerce platform. Easy to use and perfect if you are purely selling online, which is why hundreds of Irish stores run on it. Plenty find WooCommerce a bit too technical. The trade-off with Shopify: more paid add-ons each month 🛒

Good morning. Trying out some flavoured coffee from Mahers. Not quite sure about it yet. Possibly the maddest thing I'll do this week ☕

I shared the WhatsApp number of an offshore dev spamming me for work with another spammer from Pakistan who messaged me today. I hope they get on brilliantly and enjoy a long and fruitful working relationship. 😂

Backups are one of those things you only find out about on the worst day. Worth knowing now whether yours actually restore, not just whether they exist..

AI won't fix a messy process. It'll just do the mess faster. Write the steps down properly first, then hand them over.

A question I get a lot: why pay to look after a website that isn't broken? Because not broken is the cheap state to keep it in. Broken is where the money goes.

I am trying to wean myself off saying Good morning and Please and Thank you to Claude... may take a while..

Plugin updates are the oil changes of a WordPress site. Nobody notices them when they're done, and everybody notices when they're not.

Karma, as I do tweet about this stuff 😄 Unhacked a Dublin restaurant site yesterday. If it hadn’t been caught, their online bookings could have taken a serious hit over the weekend. Doing a Saturday double-check now. Websites never take weekends off. #WordPress #WebSecurity

The best part of getting AI to run my WordPress setups isn't the speed. It's that step 14 gets done on a Friday afternoon exactly the way it gets done on a Monday morning.

I think if I titled my website "Looking for Offshore Developers" I wouldn't get much more emails per day from them.

Claude now does a 25-30 step WordPress site set of tasks for me in about 4-5ish minutes. Which even amazing me would take about 45 minutes to do.
