In the first hundred years of the Arab-Israeli conflict (1921-2021) there were about 100,000 fatalities, roughly half of the total are concentrated in fighting between Israel and Egypt in the 25 years from 1948 to 1973.
By now everyone knows that October 7, 2023, was the deadliest day for the Jewish people since the Holocaust. Any guesses what was the deadliest day for the Palestinian people in the hundred years of Arab-Israeli conflict?

Nixon got Congress to de-fund US support for South Vietnam and Cambodia, leading to victory for the Viet Cong and Khmer Rouge. Nixon's opening to China granted recognition to the most democidal regime of the 20th century, while it was still rulled by the democidaire, Mao. Arms-control w/ the Soviets just allowed the Soviets to cheat by not honoring the agreements. Nixon's closure of the gold window led to the Great Inflation of the 70s, which the US has never recovered from.
Last week I joined a panel discussion on the presidency of Richard Nixon. I argued that his single full term ranks, after Lincoln’s first and Franklin Roosevelt’s third term, as the most successful in the history of the office. There has never been a scintilla of probative evidence that Nixon committed any felony. His record includes the orderly extraction of the United States from Vietnam, the opening to China, the most consequential arms-control agreement of the Cold War, the peaceful dismantling of segregation without judicially mandated busing, the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency, the abolition of the draft, and measurable progress on inflation and crime. He was nevertheless destroyed by what can only be described as a monstrous pseudo-officious insurrection conducted by elements of the media, Congress and the Justice Department. A president re-elected by the largest popular-vote margin in American history was driven from office without just cause. The episode remains a sobering illustration of how a successful leader can be dismantled for no adequate reason. Nixon’s historical reputation continues its steady ascent. Recognition of his capabilities is long overdue.

I wasn’t familiar with Rees-Mogg prior to this, but I was impressed. It was an hour-long masterclass in how to deal with a hostile interviewer. And he maintained his composure until the very end. His style was the perfect foil to Tucker’s approach.
All of Carlson’s disingenuous techniques are on display here. Half-truths, quotes of context, taking what the other person says and twisting it. Mehdi has a similar playbook. You have to be exceptionally good even to hold your own, and Rees Mogg owns him.

Mogg definitely mogged him.
I have been trying to work out why the Carlson—Rees-Mogg interview is going viral. I think it’s because because it represents the moment when traditional conservatism, defined by courtesy, self-restraint and truth, visibly overcomes the feverish, conspiracist and bellicose post-liberal Right. Sir @Jacob_Rees_Mogg was the perfect instrument of destruction. He is a man of unquestioned sincerity, intellect and courtliness. He was one of only two Ali G interviewees to emerge with his reputation enhanced, the other being Tony Benn, and for the same reason: utter sincerity. With Tucker, as with the brilliant Baron-Cohen, he bats away feverish, crackpot claims in a calm, measured and devastatingly gracious way. What ended McCarthyism was the dignified put down delivered by the Army’s lawyer, Joseph Welch, on live TV in June 1954: “Senator, you have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?” Joe McCarthy died three years later at the age of 48, broken and disgraced. As Welch to McCarthy, so Mogg to Tucker.

I do feel compelled now to mention this other grand British mogging of an American college dropout here:

Tucker got called out to his face on the "NATO expansion" myth, in real time, and starting squirming. It is simultaneously satisfying and embarrassing to watch. Tucker might be the most repulsive figure in American public life.

Least anti-libertarian "libertarians". 🙃
Darryl Cooper and Scott Horton say that it's good for America to be weaker, and it's good for China and Iran to be stronger. Darryl Cooper: "[For] people who think like us," America losing the war with Iran is "almost certainly long term going to be good," because it will "force us to reckon with the limitations of our power." The alternative he's glad we avoided: the Iranian regime collapsing on day one and America feeling "like great big winners." Why? Because a confident America "might be at war with China over Taiwan in five years." Scott Horton agrees: "It's better to lose."

New Claviverse advisor: Joule Sullivan, the Tailor Warrior @SartorialShootr mogged.art/p/introducing-a-n…
🚨 BREAKING: Andrew Tate's right-hand man has turned his back on the manosphere and spoken out against Tate's misogyny Former "General" in Tate's War Room network Joule "Sartorial Shooter" Sullivan has spoken about how he has left Tate's orbit and the “manosphere”, having grown concerned there might be something to the charges of sex trafficking, abuse and rape Tate and his brother Tristan are now fighting in multiple countries. “There are no answers in the ‘red pill’ and the manosphere,” Sullivan said. “It’s just a bunch of grown men complaining. I bought into Tate’s message. But I went to therapy and got help for my issues with women. I have to believe innocent until proven guilty, it’s hard to reconcile these charges [against Tate] with the good friend … and polite man I knew, but the scale of the allegations now, especially involving minors, are disturbing. Joule said he was also upset to see “young men essentially being poisoned in their view of women” by Tate’s brand of toxic masculinity, which tells men to “take the red pill.” “These red pill guys, they don’t have healthy relationships themselves, so who are they to teach you?” Sullivan said. “Men should protect the wellbeing of women.” He says he regretted using Tate terminology. It was “a bit cringe now”, he said, that he’d moved on “from all this ‘red pill’ nonsense”.
