Hegseth served in Afghanistan 2011-12 as an instructor in Kabul, training Afghan forces. I was also instructing local officers in Kabul & as the casualties came in across the nations, including Afghans, somehow failed to hear that it was only the Americans who were fighting.

Check this out: Mike Ditka in a game against the Steelers in 1963. This is honestly one of the best plays by a tight end in NFL history that very few people have ever seen. RIP Iron Mike.

May 24, 1969. Kontum Province, near Ben Het. Australian Warrant Officer Keith Payne is commanding a company of Montagnard strike force troops when a much larger North Vietnamese force hits them from three sides. His soldiers start to fall back. Payne runs from position to position, collecting grenades and throwing them at the attackers. Shrapnel hits him in the hands and arms. The line breaks anyway. The battalion commander, several advisers and a few soldiers pull back. Payne covers them with grenades and his rifle. Then he runs across open ground under fire, gets in front of his own retreating troops, stops them, and by nightfall has the survivors of two companies dug into a perimeter. Then he goes back out, alone, into the dark. For about three hours, under fire, he searches the battlefield. He finds about 40 lost soldiers, many of them wounded, and brings them back. When he gets there, the rest of the battalion has pulled out and left. So Payne leads the whole group, helping carry a badly wounded American adviser himself, through enemy-held ground to safety. He was awarded the Victoria Cross, plus the American Distinguished Service Cross and Silver Star. He later spent decades counseling veterans with PTSD. A psychiatric unit for veterans in Brisbane is named after him. Today he is 92. He is the last living Australian to hold the original Victoria Cross.

I don't tell Communist jokes on Twitter because MAGA may not understand them, and Communist jokes are only funny when everyone gets them.

Lots of gloating about City on here, but it shows the financial rules are basically designed to keep ambitious wannabes, as City were before 2012, in their box, so the old-money clubs can carry in regardless. This is proved by the current plights of Villa and Newcastle

🚨 Jurgen Klopp on whether he misses his rivalry with Pep Guardiola after taking charge of Germany: “I had my first proper sessions with Germany and afterwards I was sitting there thinking, ‘Okay… this is different.’ Then somebody asked me if there was anything I missed about club football. Unfortunately, I thought of Pep. [laughs] I spent years trying to get away from this man. You win 10 games, you look at the table and City have won 11. You get 97 points and somehow you’re 2nd. Before playing them you spend 3 days thinking about what Pep might change, then the game starts and he’s put a midfielder at left back for some reason. It was exhausting. But I miss it. Because we believed in football differently. Pep wanted control. I wanted the game to become something nobody could control. He wanted 25 passes before hurting you. Sometimes I wanted three. Neither of us changed for the other one. We just kept trying to prove our football could beat the other’s. And I think that’s why those Liverpool-City games felt different. It wasn’t only two great teams. It was two completely different answers to the same question. Now I’m with Germany and maybe one day Pep takes a national team. 🗣️ Reporter: “You actually want that?” 🗣️ Klopp: “Of course. Give him Spain. Give him Brazil. Give him whoever he wants. Then maybe we meet in a World Cup semi-final and spend another week pretending we’re enjoying ourselves. [laughs] I think football deserves one more. Pep once said he’d sleep better when I left Liverpool. He’s had enough sleep now.”

This is a fabricated quote attributed to Jurgen Klopp. The account regularly posts fictional football content as satire and Klopp's real recent statements about Germany contain no such remarks about Pep Guardiola. x.com/ChinoUTD/statu… dfb.de/news/klopp-suc… getfootballnewsgermany.com/2026/klopp-44-…

Cat check: The National Centre for Information Defence will be tasked with tackling Russian disinformation. It's unclear why Farage, whose former colleague Nathan Gill is currently in prison for accepting bribes to make pro-Russian statements, is against this.

American military police tried to impose a colour bar on an English village in 1943. The village's three pubs responded by putting up signs reading: BLACK TROOPS ONLY. Bamber Bridge, Lancashire. Black American soldiers were stationed there and the locals liked them. When the US Army asked the village to segregate its pubs, the publicans complied in the most English way available — by barring the white Americans instead. On the night of 24 June 1943, white American MPs came to arrest a Black soldier at Ye Olde Hob Inn for a uniform infraction. British civilians and British soldiers in the pub intervened and told them to leave him alone. It escalated into a night of shooting between Black GIs and American MPs. One Black soldier, William Crossland, was killed. Dozens were court-martialed. British witnesses testified about the MPs' conduct, and sentences were reduced. The US Army quietly reorganised how MPs were deployed in the area. An English village looked at American segregation, understood it immediately, and refused to host it. The pub is still there. The sign is part of local legend.
