Supporter of space settlement and energy abundance. Let's expand civilization to the solar system and preserve Earth's biosphere. My pronouns are US/A

We need to make NASA HSF explicitly about enabling settlement. Like, we’re doing all this to prepare for human settlement, and stop being so coy and indirect about it. Otherwise it feels like our argument for why the risk of HSF is worth it is just totally incoherent.
Yes, doesn’t make any sense to me. Like, you want to just repeat Apollo and ISS forever? This is also why NASA finds it hard to justify human spaceflight vs robotic, because its justification is obviously to prepare for colonization but NASA is traditionally squeamish about that.

'the best neocloud' on earth is telling everyone the only path forward is to put racks in space. most in the AI community have hand waved this as SpaceX effectively trying to justify Starship or the their space moat. but now as the undeniable best builder of super compute on earth, they are still saying starmind is required. all of SpaceX's incentives align to the best/fastest/cheapest way to deploy chips. is it time we take supercompute in space seriously? not as proof of concept, not as something that 'may be economic in the late 2030s' but as a serious endeavor to build out of the next 5 years.
SpaceX is effectively the best neocloud right now... SpaceX insists on short term leases only, so as long as compute keeps getting scarcer and the compute shortage curve keeps sloping up and to the right, SpaceX can keep raising prices. On top of that, SpaceX has the best infrastructure buildout capability in the industry and its own compute demand, so it can absorb excess demand at any time. That is why it commands a premium of 2x, and as much as 3x, over competitors like IREN. ($60 billion per GW) To track Nvidia's revenue, SpaceX is now the company to watch most closely. Until SpaceX ASICs come out of Terafab in 2030, it will devour more Nvidia chips, and more ravenously, than anyone else in the world. Wouldn't SpaceX easily absorb the slowdown in Nvidia chip demand caused by Google and other hyperscalers developing their own ASICs?

Remember that Elon, after years of saying the heatshield was the biggest remaining challenge, said on the Q2 earnings call that they think it's pretty much solved and ready for rapid reuse. People who still believe tiles can't do rapid reuse are gonna be surprised.
Can we talk about how clean that heatshield is? Holy shit!! 🤯🤯

I know that anti space colonization fans of Artemis 2 aren't thinking beyond "Elon bad, Elon pro space colonization, therefore space colonization bad," but, like, do they know the goal of Artemis is permanent presence on the Moon and preparation for Mars?
The “spaceflight fan” crowd that praises astronauts and the Artemis moon missions but say we shouldn’t go to Mars because we have Earth are so funny Fake spaceflight fans everywhere

"We leave as we came, and, God willing, we shall return, with peace and hope for all mankind." 16 and 17 are probably my favorite Apollo missions. ❤️
Every single rocket launch in history: 1972 The Apollo Moon landings end with Apollo 17, whose crew takes the Blue Marble photograph before Eugene Cernan and Harrison Schmitt become the last people to walk on the Moon. Pioneer 10 sets out for Jupiter.

SpaceX will become the greatest and most important company in all of human history in the next decade. Most people just don't know it yet.

I really don't have any theory of mind for anti-colonization "space fans." What do you think we are exploring to prepare FOR?

This is a team to watch Composite parts for western drones, made in America, more than competitive with China - what's not to like 🦾 Incredible team (and if you've met them you know this!) did this first for F1 cars, now taking best in class materials and manufacturing to scale Going to be a wild ride 📈

RIP Soyuz 11. 🫡 "Dave Scott and Jim Irwin drive the first car on the Moon" was possibly the most American moment in history.
Every single rocket launch in history: 1971 Salyut 1 becomes the first space station, but its first crew dies on the way home when Soyuz 11 loses cabin pressure. Apollo 15 drives the first lunar rover, and Mariner 9 becomes the first spacecraft to orbit another planet.

Except for the lack of blue sky, Mars looks strikingly similar to deserts on Earth. You can tell it's Earth's sibling, unlike the Moon. IMO there's no more inspiring mission than settling and terraforming Mars.
Highly detailed picture of Mars captured by NASA's Curiosity rover. Seeing real images of another planet is awesome.
