It was about time somebody said this, and said it so clearly.
James Talarico responds to AOC calling woke 1.0 crazy, policing people's language is performative politics, and it stops you from building a coalition “I do think that there was a rise in performative politics in people who are more concerned about using the right words, usually determined by academia” “Those are unifying values that we all agree on.” “But when you start policing people's language, when you start judging people because they're not up on the right terminology, you're no longer building a coalition to address those real problems” “you're performing a kind of politics that's about your own intellectual and emotional needs and not about actually making change.” w/ @jamestalarico

Reading the Putney Debates is still marvellous - the language, the politics, the cut and thrust.
Today in 1647 the Putney debates began between Oliver Cromwell and the army commanders and the rank and file of the New Model Army. Read here about London and Parliament following the defeat and imprisonment of Charles I thehistoryoflondon.co.uk/tow…

An important book.
Freedom of Belief could be at risk in Britain due to ignorance about history and context. Find out about our new book!

If the train is slow and you peer through the windows, you can still see the remains of the Victorian shops opened up for pedestrians.
Take a train between Wapping and Rotherhithe stations and you are travelling through the world's first (now oldest) tunnel under a river. It was constructed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel and father Marc. The tunnel originally opened for pedestrians in 1843 and railway in the 1860s.

Important book. Why 17th century history matters.
Our new book on the how and why of religious freedom in Britain is published in a few days. Everyone needs one - even Andy Burnham, who made a bad mistake this week on this very issue! Get your copy here: Freedom of Belief in Britain – Trent Witham Books

We are delighted that sculptor @billiebondscul1 has been selected to develop the new Matchgirls Statue in East London. Her proposal captured the solidarity, strength, energy and collective action at the heart of the Matchgirls story. matchgirls1888.org/post/bill… #matchgirls1888
