I've noticed some new followers to my X account lately. Just a reminder that I am no longer active on X. You can follow me on the Fediverse instead, @[email protected].
If you need a Fediverse account, I recommend Mastodon. Find your server at joinmastodon.org/servers.
Any Terry Pratchett fans looking for their forever home on Mastodon? #GNUTerryPratchett
In case you're thinking of signing up for yet another centralised social network, don't. Just... don't.

After much deliberation, we have decided that we will no longer be posting to X. We recommend following us on Mastodon at @[email protected] (If you need an account, visit joinmastodon.org/servers, find your ideal server, and follow us from anywhere). 🐘

The days of the big FOSS projects (LibeOffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, etc) using proprietary, for-profit social networks for their primary accounts is coming to an end. Those places just don't fit the ethos of FOSS projects, and FOSS networks are starting to come into their own.
The concept of Mastodon is very simple: pick a server to join, and follow anyone on any other server. But time and time again, we hear how this concept is one that people struggle to understand.
Popular servers are at joinmastodon.org/servers, but there are literally thousands of others, so if you can't find one that speaks to you there, Google "Mastodon server for xyz".

Hello, world! 👋 From now on, Mastodon is our preferred social media channel. It's an open source, decentralised platform – not controlled by tech giants. Follow us here: fosstodon.org/@libreoffice
Speaking of Mastodon, yesterday marked my third anniversary on the platform, and I've never been happier. It's like old Twitter was, way back before algorithms and before ads. Come play with us. :-) joinmastodon.org/servers
You know what would be funny?
If @elonmusk joined Mastodon. Maybe infosec.exchange or fosstodon.org or something (or even mstdn.business). I think he'd be blocked by 90% of the Fediverse before he made his first post! ;-P
If anyone's interested, loops.video is the Fediverse's answer to TikTok. I mentioned it before when it was still in Beta, but now it's live and polished. If you're a fan of Reels and other short-form community-generated video, check it out: loops.video/
Mastodon, the non-profit that oversees the project and source code and all that, has just launched a service to help large companies and public institutions to host their own servers. See here for more information: blog.joinmastodon.org/2025/0… #Mastodon #Fediverse
Hi @Vodacom111. Any word yet on the fibre outage in Verwoerdpark, Alberton? Any ETA? It's been down for quite a while, and according to people on our local WhatsApp group who've phoned, they just keep getting told technicians are working on it. It's getting urgent now, though. :/
