Simulations of a volcanic eruption comparable to Mount Tambora in 1815 reveal that stratospheric aerosols could reduce global wind and solar resources simultaneously, with an average decline of 3.6% lasting up to 20 months. Under current infrastructure, these anomalies translate to an estimated 213.5 TWh reduction in renewable electricity generation and USD 9 billion in associated cost-based losses, comparable in energy terms to California’s annual electricity consumption in 2024. Regional impacts differ substantially: South America and Africa experience the largest average resource declines, while Asia records the greatest absolute generation losses because of its concentrated renewable capacity. The findings identify major volcanic aerosol events as an underexplored risk to renewable electricity supply and highlight the need to account for rare climate shocks in long-term energy planning and assessments of aerosol-based #ClimateInterventions . researchsquare.com/article/r…

Concerns that direct air capture (DAC) could weaken emissions-reduction efforts through moral hazard remain central to debates about its role in net-zero strategies. Using indirect questioning to reduce social desirability bias, a new study examines perceptions of mitigation ambition among a representative U.S. sample of 900 participants randomly assigned to control or DAC development scenarios. Contrary to expectations, exposure to the DAC scenario increased reported climate ambition, with participants rating their own emissions-reduction intentions as more ambitious than those they attributed to others. The findings also show that expectations of mitigation ambition varied according to whether motivations were attributed to internal, dispositional factors or external, situational circumstances. Differences between these attributions observed in the control group converged under the DAC scenario. The results suggest that moral hazard may operate through assumptions about the motivations behind others’ behaviour, highlighting the importance of understanding social perceptions when designing climate policies that combine carbon removal with emissions reduction. sciencedirect.com/science/ar…

Project Manager, Fossil Politics, Health of Mother Earth Foundation (HOMEF), Mr. Cadmus Otake-Ende, has called for preservation of forests in Bayelsa State to protect the environment for generations yet unborn. He stated this at a Community Dialogue and Engagement on accelerating nature and climate action to advance Nigeria’s net zero and ’30×30′ targets with the people of Opume on Friday, October 9, 2026, in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa. shorturl.at/0HXBG via EnviroNews

Right now there are only 15 pesticides out of 1,200 currently in use in the USA that are listed on CA's prop65 as reproductive toxicants AND carcinogens Atrazine is about to become the 16th Imagine if this was a map of water pollution from DDT or arsenic This isn't ok

Passing through the Palghat Gap, watching hundreds of wind turbines turn across the landscape is like watching geography in motion. Roughly 30 to 40 kilometres wide, this natural opening in the Western Ghats connects Kerala’s Palakkad region with the plains of Tamil Nadu, channeling southwest monsoon winds, which accelerate as they emerge onto the Tamil Nadu plains. A familiar road becomes a little more fascinating when you understand the geography behind it !

608bn litres of industrial wastewater entered sewage plants last year. Sources include power stations, abattoirs, landfill, some with consents for chemicals such as mercury + cyanide - entering plants not designed to treat such waste. Our new report: theguardian.com/environment/…

IRENA's latest report tracking progress towards the UAE Consensus global energy goals finds that up to US$1 trillion/year must be invested in grids & flexibility between 2026 & 2030. Investment in grids is crucial to ensure the connection of renewable power for energy security, economic development & climate protection. See how: irena.org/Publications/2026/…

Car free streets *will* get used - but need to be phased in and chosen thoughtfully. Then biking takes off.
Cuando un niño va a la escuela caminando o en bici desarrolla confianza, orientación y gestión del riesgo. Mientras que ir siempre en auto fomenta dependencia y pasividad.

I'm not saying everyone has to live by bike, but you don't have to accept the car culture status quo. Mobility freedom is infrastructure that gives you real choices. In a well-designed city, taking the cargo bike for this errand is simply faster, easier, and way more fun.
