#OTD 27 Years Ago - Hollywood Hogan defeats The Giant at Hog Wild! From Chapter 15 of NITRO: On Saturday, August 10th, the thugs continued their dominance at Hog Wild, a WCW pay-per-view broadcast from South Dakota’s annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis. “The only time I tried to be creative, I probably screwed it up,” says Harvey Schiller of the event. “A lot of the wrestlers had motorcycles, so I was the guy who said, ‘why don’t we do a show up at Sturgis, South Dakota when they do the big motorcycle get together?’ We did it outdoors and I don’t think it did as great as I thought it would do. Most of wrestling appeals to a younger generation, [rather] than people on the back of motorcycles.” Such an observation became obvious as the crowd - free attendees who revved their bikes up intermittently - cheered Hogan upon his main event entrance. Nonetheless, despite the rather flat atmosphere, Hogan dethroned The Giant to become WCW champion for the second time. In a further act of aggression after the match, Hollywood defaced the prestigious WCW title by spray-painting the letters ‘nWo’ over it - a highly disrespectful move given its lineage (which, in kayfabe, traced back almost a hundred years). “For some reason,” laughs Neal Pruitt, former WCW feature producer, “when using the spray paint, Hogan could never write the small ‘n’ in nWo!” Expanded Hardcover: guyevansbooks.com/products/n… 590 Page Paperback:guyevansbooks.com/products/n… Ultimate NITRO Bundle: guyevansbooks.com/products/g… Amazon USA: amazon.com/NITRO-Incredible-… Amazon UK: amazon.co.uk/NITRO-Incredibl… Amazon Canada: amazon.ca/NITRO-Incredible-I… Amazon Australia: amazon.com.au/NITRO-Incredib… 17+ Hour Audiobook Available at Audible and Apple Books Audible USA: audible.com/pd/B0876F243L/?s… Audible UK: audible.co.uk/pd/B0876FM417/… Audible Canada: audible.ca/pd/Nitro-Audioboo… Audible Australia: audible.com.au/pd/Nitro-Audi… Apple Books: books.apple.com/us/audiobook… Signed Copies Available at GuyEvansBooks.com #WCW #nWo #wrestling #wrestlingbooks
