Friendly reminder that Disney posted over $37 billion of profit last year so they don't have to do this. Just a friendly reminder 👍

Unfortunately this is the state of American sports. All of our sports are great games but they are all becoming irrelevant and unwatchable bc of our greed. It’s happening to us in every aspect of our lives not just sports. That’s why I watch soccer, rugby and cycling. I escaped
I hate to say it folks but I think sports as a whole may have peaked. Everything about sports just feels so forced and unnecessary, a desperate attempt for a private equity firm to squeeze more juice from the lemon. You have college football who is going to expand to a 24 team playoff, getting rid of the most unique thing about college football; its regular season. But these people aren’t college football people, they are tv executives and investors. They could care less about the sustainability of the sports and the tradition of it, they only care about turning a profit. The MLB playoff have begun and if you are between the ages of 22 and 65, you probably haven’t seen much of them because they are all on during the day. A MLB playoff game started at 2 PM Eastern on a Tuesday. This is 11 AM Pacific. Why? Because NBC has to be the only network that can air the Wild Card round, so they need triple headers to be able to get all of the games in. Atlanta and Philly are heading into a game 3 and didn’t even know what time they were playing til about midnight last night because of conflicts with other games and network availability. Corporate greed has completely botched the MLB playoffs so far in order to keep all the games on NBC. It feels as if sports have peaked across the board. We’ve gotten to a point where it’s impossible for fans to care more than they have before, spend more than they have before, or watch more than they have before. Every consumer situation has an infliction point, where the capacity of the consumer is maxed out. The product has to back off in order to not burn out the customer and keep them engaged enough to have them invested long term while they back off and recharge short term. I believe that is where America is with sports now. It currently demands too much of us on a daily basis and has ruined the reasons that we have fallen in love with it. Maybe we all just need a break…

Aaron Rodgers, holding nothing back, explains why he doesn’t trust anyone in government — right or left — and believes it’s all a sham. “There is no MAGA movement. The guy you elected hasn’t done any of his campaign promises. ... When Obama was president, it was, ‘There will be hope and change for a better world.’ Has anything in the Black community gotten significantly better?” (📽️ @NotJustFootball with @CamHeyward)

100%. And worse yet, they tricked us with the not yet fully monetized versions of all of these products. They offer it free, get us hooked…then the frog boiling begins. When the frog dies…they start over
They took memory cards from us and made us pay for storage. They took CDs and DVDs and made us pay for streaming. They took software you could buy once and turned it into a monthly subscription. They took ownership, convenience, and basically everything that used to be a one-time purchase… then somehow made us pay for it every month.

Here’s the right way to ask Larry Berg about #ProRelForUSA: “When the system opens to all US clubs via promotion/relegation, will MLS participate?” Sure, it’s still a rhetorical question, but it’s the right one.

What a nightmare. By implementing the tariffs illegally, and now having to unwind them, the Trump administration created over $100 billion of profit for corporations selling foreign products, at the expense of American consumers. Your refund: $0.00 Apple’s profit: $2.2 billion

I thought FIFA boss Gianni Infantino was a force for good in football. I was wrong. The shameful Balogun fiasco was bad enough, but his greedy, tawdry attempt to flog off the World Cup is beyond the pale. He must go.

If UEFA were to leave FIFA and then block players registered to FIFA from playing in Europe, players from the other confederations would jump ship over night. This is the line in the sand moment. Something has to be done now. Infantino is an utter corrupt scumbag

Major cheat code for life: The ability to recognize things that don’t matter. The world will pressure you to care about every single thing. To chase every problem. To take every slight personally. To have opinions on everything. Reject that trend. Focus on a few, ignore the rest.

In Germany, a talented 14-year-old earns his club money. In America, his parents pay the club $15,000 a year. That single inversion explains why "we will not" is the most accurate line ever written about US soccer. FIFA built a global system for this. Training compensation and solidarity payments send a cut of every transfer fee back to the clubs that developed the player, from age 12 onward. Develop one future pro and your academy gets paid for a decade. Barcelona's La Masia, Ajax, every Bundesliga academy runs on this logic. The kid is the asset. US Soccer refuses to enforce those rules. When Seattle's Crossfire Premier claimed its $60,000 share of DeAndre Yedlin's transfer to Tottenham, it got nothing. Claims on the Dempsey and Bradley transfers died partly because the federation couldn't even produce the youth training records. So American clubs earn zero dollars when a kid turns pro. They earn when a kid enrolls. Which makes the parent the customer, and the product is whatever keeps the parent writing checks: travel tournaments, hotel weekends, $500 showcase events, private training at $100 an hour. Elite pathways run $8,000 to $20,000 a year. A comparable academy spot in Italy costs about 120 euros. Follow the incentive one level deeper and it gets darker. A club dependent on fees can't cut its weakest paying players, so rosters optimize for retention over development. The scouting pool shrinks to families who can afford the cliff, which appears around age 11, exactly when development matters most. The country runs a talent filter sorted by household income instead of ability. Every four years someone proposes fixing this. The proposal always requires the people profiting from the $15,000 model to vote themselves out of business. They will not.
“And every four years when the World Cup comes around, we will say that we’d dominate if we had a stronger youth program.” “And will we develop a stronger youth program?” “We will not.”
