DAY 2 at the Petersen Automotive Museum 🔥 Pulled the mirror-polished Cybertruck into the museum today to give everyone an up-close look at how we do things at Gold Standard Finishing. This truck has already been fully polished, so today was about showing the process, answering questions, and giving it a quick touch-up while everyone gets to see the techniques firsthand. There’s a big difference between watching metal polishing online and standing right there seeing how the finish is actually created and maintained. One of the biggest questions we get: “If you sand the Cybertruck, are you removing enough stainless steel to affect the integrity of the panel?” No. We're not grinding the panel down or removing a meaningful amount of material. We're refining the surface. The factory finish has a directional brushed texture made up of microscopic peaks and valleys. Our sanding process progressively levels that surface removing the factory sanding/brushing pattern and working down to a more uniform surface. Once we reach that point, we're no longer trying to remove material we're refining and flattening the remaining microscopic surface profile so it can be polished into a true mirror. The amount of stainless removed is extremely small relative to the total thickness of the panel. We're changing the surface finish, not the structural integrity of the stainless. Think of it as taking a textured surface and making it progressively flatter and smoother until light can reflect cleanly instead of scattering off the factory grain. That's how you go from brushed stainless → refined stainless → mirror finish.
