This wasn’t pride. It was a deliberate mockery of the idea that American names and culture carry any particular history or weight. He’s not arguing that immigrants can become American. He’s arguing that the name, the identity, and the political demands that come with it are already fully American the moment he says so and that anyone who notices the difference is the real problem. That’s the play. Use the name as a shield, treat ordinary American expectations as an insult, then demand the Senate seat as proof of progress.
