“You can only watch 5 movies for the rest of your life”
I think I am at:
That Thing You Do!
Fury
Top Gun: Maverick
Friday Night Lights
Goldeneye
You can only watch 5 movies for the rest of your life.
Seven Samurai
Casablanca
His Girl Friday
The French Dispatch
12 Angry Men
Not necessarily my top 5 (although 7 Samurai is my #1), but movies I’d enjoy watching over and over.
Perception is crazy. A few years ago people would use a deal like this with something snarky like “and the players get 0 dollars.” And they were right. Now in 2026, 20 million dollars a year probably doesn’t even cover the salaries of the Wide Receiver Room.
Scoop: Per sources, UM is returning to Nike for one of the most lucrative deals in college sports history -- a 10-year contract worth more than $200 M. Adidas made a counter-offer but did not match Nike's exact terms. Takes effect with 2027 football season. Will have a lot of behind-the-scene details in a full story momentarily.
Agreed. This silly bill in Congress is trying to do too much. Stop worrying about how much they get paid or how often they transfer and simply allow an organization - whether it’s the NCAA or ind. conferences - to make and enforce eligibility rules without 100 lawsuits.
The transfer portal now spins from the NFL back to college?
Absurd. Comical. Predictable.
The NCAA needs to streamline its Congressional wish list. Column for @espn

I love Alex’s answer. I’ll also add that a player saying/feeling this means coaching staff hasn’t done enough to proactively create their personnel’s fit/role/goals within the system. Playing “my game” should be handled in August and September.
Reasons for this are same reasons for player salaries not following real economic principles.
1: you need to spend the money to keep your job
2: it’s not your money so you don’t really care about the price if it helps you keep your job.
The 2025-26 Knicks are a testament to the philosophy that the best thing a leader of an organization can do is hire great people & leave them alone to do their jobs. Dolan’s Knicks teams were awful when he hired friends, favorites & suck-ups. Hired dudes. Let them work. Champs.
Was right about this. Best contract in NBA. Bright future. Was definitely wrong about Mike Brown. Didn’t think he was the guy. Glad I was wrong.
Replying to @BigKnickEnergy_
Grateful for an amazing season with a fun-to-watch team that has a bright future with the best contract in the NBA, cap room and an organization that is attractive to free agents now.
1: 1980 US Olympic Hockey win over USSR
2: Billy Chapel perfect game
3: MJ and Bugs beat the Monstars
This viewpoint and the one that was retweeted has good intentions but is also misguided. Colleges have already increased student fees, bled donors dry (so many saying they are “tapped out”). How many more sponsors can you get? This idea money is unlimited just isn’t true.
The NBA regular season definitely has its issues. But the NBA playoffs the last few years have been unbelievably competitive and entertaining.
Knicks cut it to 3. Turnover out of a timeout. Get scored on. Come down. Deuce step back 3. Knicks ran of Tom Thibodeau for this???
This could be the beginning of a trend. Making (relatively) no money off your athletics department but still handing out scholarships going to be tough for small private colleges in current higher education climate.
These are the perfect cases for the current NCAA age limit proposal. This young man should get to play college basketball if he wants to. I don’t know his birthday or HS graduation, but the 5 years from 19 birthday probably gives him 1 or 2 NCAA seasons which is reasonable.
St. John’s has landed their second international commit, as Đorđije Jovanović will be coming to Queens, per @DraftExpress
Jovanović, a 22 year-old from Montenegro, previously played in the G-League for the Ontario Clippers from 2022 to 2024. #SJUBB
I love this. I’d go one step further and even say let kids go pro and come back if it’s within the 5 years. Just have a hard no-exceptions (except military and religious) cap at 5 years from 19. Keep it enforceable and fair without limiting anything else.
The NCAA is exploring a significant change to its eligibility rule, sources tell @YahooSports. The proposal creates an age-based standard: Athletes would have 5 years of eligibility from their 19th birthday or HS graduation.
No redshirts or waivers.

Interesting article. Interesting and candid writing by the VT President. All levels have unique cost/benefit considerations. At some levels more than others the benefits are abstract and impossible to quantify, but the $$$ expended are very, very real.
Virginia Tech's president just wrote an editorial that admits that well, university presidents dont really know how to define or measure the value of college sports, and that they're captured by emotion.
welp!

If you’re looking for a GA spot, can’t recommend this enough. Best 3 years of my career out in Western NY. Awesome campus community. Great Coach.

I love Irvin on the sidelines. And don’t worry photographers - Guys taking pride in their alma mater that they helped build is something that is going to be completely gone in 15-20 years from now. PS I’m not anti-transfer portal.
I know I’m a relic when I express concern about how easy it would be to use this loophole to deliberately break a rule and the response is “they already could do it this other way” and “who cares?” Strange times in college athletics.
