#RailsWorld wasn't just a huge success for the attendees, but for the sponsors too. I got the pleasure to checkout @wafrisorg and speak with the team at length BECAUSE they were there while I probably would have ignored a pitch email. (Also, their system looks excellent!)
I just published our #RailsWorld2023 recap. It's a little different from the other writeups I've seen, as it focuses more on the business side of being a developer-focused sponsor/vendor and less on the announcements and talks. wafris.org/blog/railsworld-2…

They say I make $45K/month just by pure luck and just by posting my MRR on Twitter 🙃 I'll ignore them and have my 8 years of GitHub graph printed on my wall as a self-reminder ✅

We should add Twitter to that list of companies that Rails brought its fortune. Their migration to Java microservices brought an absolute ice winter to innovation. All the 0 to 1 work seems to have happened on Rails, and all the ossification/non-shipping on Java!
Counterpoint: Java (Scala) microservices we’re an absolute nightmare for us at Twitter as we migrated off Ruby on Rails. Much of the complexity that Elon mentioned after he bought the company was from this architecture.

Some really cool (programming) tech that I think are underrated right now and that have proven very useful to me this year:

Not so many Ruby devs use pattern matching. I admit, when I first saw the feature(v2.7), the case syntax was clunky. But that isn't the "case" anymore! In my next tweets I'll show you many cool & clean examples. So we become less jealous of Elixir / JS devs 😂 Destructuring 👇

This is a story about how I lost $10,000,000 by doing something stupid. Ten. Million. Dollars. Literally up in smoke. Money bonfire. That’s enough to retire with $250,000+ in annual income. Here’s what happened…

Elixir is a functional, dynamically typed language that is built on top of Erlang’s VM and compiles down to Erlang bytecode. Why use it for a software project in contrast to technologies like Java, Ruby, and others? { author: @serokell } #DEVCommunity dev.to/serokell/introduction…
