Ken Holland has to be laughing right now. Steve Yzerman has to be laughing right now. The NHL has to be laughing right now. At the Joke the Iconic, Original 6, Detroit Red Wings have become. Everybody is laughing except the people that matter most… The fans. So pathetic.

The name Lake Ontario comes from the Wendat word Ontari’io, which, appropriately, means “the lake is beautiful, the lake is big”. The name is more than 400 years old, predating both the Confederation of Canada and the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America. We know that America is changing. Their trading relationships, their foreign policies, their national monuments, their hydronyms. Canadians also know that naming reality means calling it Lake Ontario – then, now and always.

Johan Cruyff on Romário: "One day, Romário asked me if he could miss training to go to Brazil for Carnival. I said, 'If you score two goals tomorrow, you can go.' He scored twice in 20 minutes and immediately asked to be substituted. 'Coach, my plane leaves in one hour.'" Peak Romário. 😭🇧🇷

🇮🇹 MALDINI REVEALS ALL. • Guardiola was already writing down Italy XIs • Why Pirlo was his choice • How the project collapsed • Why he disagreed with bringing back Mancini Some of the biggest revelations from his first major interview with Corriere dello Sport: 1️⃣ Guardiola was closer than anyone realized 💬 “We spent an entire day with Pep in Barcelona. He was very close to accepting. He was even writing formations on paper. It’s not true that he asked for €20 million. Money wasn’t even a topic. Pep told us: give me one euro less than the last manager and I’m good. He ultimately rejected because he was tired. He comes from ten exhausting years in the EPL. He just had back surgery. He wanted to rest.” 2️⃣ Why Pirlo was the choice 💬 “Our idea was focused on the technical side, on attacking play, on changing things. We wanted a young coach who had a history with the Nazionale. Along with Pirlo we also thought of De Rossi and Grosso, all world champions. But Malagò told us one of the conditions from Serie A was that we couldn’t touch their coaches. Pirlo not being a winner is a personal opinion. Whenever I speak with Pirlo he always seems very prepared. If he was supported by a technical director, he would be the ideal manager. What résumé did the last two coaches to win a major international trophy have? Scaloni and De La Fuente. If you only look at the coach, you’re only thinking of today, not tomorrow.” 3️⃣ Pirlo’s Russian contract 💬 “Pirlo was open to getting out of his contract with the Russian company, he’s a good person that didn’t deserve all this. If there really was the will to have him as Nazionale manager they would’ve found a way to do it” 4️⃣ On Mancini & Conte 💬 “It’s not like I don’t admire Mancini. Mancini and Conte are two great coaches. It’s not a question of friendship. We simply had a different project.” 5️⃣ The project was bigger than the coach 💬 “Reforming Italian football takes time. Creating talent is a long journey. We wanted to create a new movement that involved all the federal divisions: Serie A, Serie B, Serie C, amateurs, coaches, referees and players. We had to prepare for both today and tomorrow. 8-10 years are a lot? This is the only point that Serie A was doubtful about. But that was our estimate based on other nations, not only big nations like England, France, and Spain, but even smaller nations like Switzerland” 6️⃣ The turning point 💬 “The first thing I asked Malagò was who would choose the national team manager. He told us that we would choose the manager and he would back our choice. Then the events happened that led to this changing.”

Last year, Chivu exposed one of the biggest flaws in Italian football. 🇮🇹 Inter were ready to spend money on a backup striker from abroad. Instead, Chivu knew they already had the solution in-house because he had coached him in the youth system before his loan spell in Serie B. If the champions of Italy can do this, there’s no excuse for the rest not to. There is talent in Serie B. They just need an opportunity.

Classy! Never forget where you came from!
Zinedine Zidane: “At Juventus, Edgar Davids wanted us to play in the neighbourhoods. I would tell him that we trained every day and that we couldn't go and play with young people on the streets. So he would tell me 'You've changed! You don't remember where you lived and what you used to do.’ So, once or twice, I went with him. But he did it very often. It was impressive because we had fun, but it was also crazy to go, after training, to play on the tarmac with young people. He did it very, very often.”

🇪🇸 La Liga president Javier Tebas speaking 𝗙𝗔𝗖𝗧𝗦 about the 'hydration' breaks: 🗣️ Tebas: "The water breaks during the World Cup were a lie. We have them in La Liga too, but only when the weather is genuinely hot. Here, the stadiums in Dallas, Los Angeles and Atlanta were air-conditioned. I actually had to wear a jacket in the stands. It was a lie, just an advertising break. Football is being run by an organisation that does whatever it wants, whenever it wants, solely to serve its own interests, without considering the rest of football."

🧠 The smartest move David Beckham ever made wasn't on the pitch as a player. When he joined LA Galaxy in 2007, he negotiated a clause in his contract allowing him to buy a future MLS expansion franchise for just $25M. MLS later offered to buy the clause back for $50M - he would've doubled his money. But Beckham turned them down. Here's what happened next: ▪️ 2014 Exercises the $25M option and chooses Miami ▪️ 2020 Inter Miami plays its first MLS match ▪️ 2023 After four years of persuasion, signs Lionel Messi despite a reported $400M Saudi offer ▪️ 2023/24 Club revenue jumps from under $60M to around $200M in a single year ▪️ 2026 Forbes values Inter Miami at $1.35B ▪️ Today Beckham's 26% stake is worth an estimated $351M.
