Universal Periodic Review (“UPR”) is a key UN Human Rights Council mechanism for accountability on human rights violations that all countries in the world participate in. Last year, in an unprecedented move, the United States announced it would no longer participate. This August, I traveled to Geneva with organizations from a Repro and Human Rights coalition that has been documenting reproductive and human rights violations in the United States as part of the UPR process. The rally was ahead of hearings in a case brought by people in Indiana whose sincerely held religious beliefs conflict with Indiana's abortion ban. 👉 It is past time that Indiana — and all U.S. states — uphold international law by protecting people of all faiths equally.
