What Britain can learn from Giorgia Meloni's successes, failures and unfinished revolution "British politicians and commentators are right to study Meloni, provided the failures are studied as closely as the successes." writes @bepipezzulli bit.ly/45Pkm6t

HOW THE EU RESET FAILS BURNHAM'S ‘MAKERFIELD TEST’ Stuart Coster asks: "Given the EU reset is such a glaringly inept deal, one that certainly fails his ‘Makerfield Test’, why is Andy Burnham allowing himself to be railroaded into clinging to it?" bit.ly/451J9DM

IF DEVOLUTION IS THE ANSWER WHY HAS IT NOT SAVED THE UK’S WORLD CLASS OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY? "Economic demise was not because of centralised Whitehall bureaucracy or Westminster political failure but because of group think that eliminated real debate." bit.ly/4avk2fY

We can do this all day. Whether it is Survation, Ipsos, Opinium, YouGov, Whitestone, BMG, Omnisis and many others. All the polls show that, when confronted with the reality of EU membership, Brits *still* want to stay out of the EU.

Brexit at ten: Britain didn't fail – its political class did "The tragedy of Brexit is not that Britain left the EU. It is that successive governments lacked the nerve, imagination and discipline to use the freedoms Brexit restored", writes Linda Holt bit.ly/4xNpzIA

THE END OF THE JURY? "English liberty did not emerge from trust in efficient government. It emerged from distrust of power. The jury remains one of the last institutional expressions of that distrust" – explains @bepipezzulli on the Global Britain blog bit.ly/43WewPH

The Scottish Parliament’s Health, Social Care and Sport Committee has recommended against the Right to Recovery Bill despite the Parliament’s own consultation showing that almost 80 per cent of respondents supported it. We always knew this would be an uphill fight. But let’s be clear: if MSPs are serious about rights, then they should back enforceable rights. Not vague aspirations. Not hollow promises. Rights that people can actually use. If they are so confident in the system they champion, then let them put their money where their mouth is: mandate those rights in law, or at the very least embed them in binding guidance. Otherwise, it is smoke and mirrors. The truth is, this Bill was never going to pass through committee. The make-up of that committee, and the witnesses chosen, predetermined the outcome. But the fight was always about exposing that reality and keeping the pressure on for genuine, accessible rights to recovery. .open.substack.com/pub/thegla…

BRACE FOR IMPACT – THE SORRY STATE OF THE UK’S PUBLIC FINANCES “Spending has erupted in recent years with no obvious benefit in NHS outcomes, tanks in the field or even effective policing. This is a doom loop of despair” writes our director Ewen Stewart bit.ly/4njdNQy

BREXIT DAY BENEFIT BONANZA The UK banned testing cosmetics on animals in 1996, but EU laws introduced in 2006 made it *mandatory* to test new cosmetic ingredients on animals - despite contradictory EU laws banning it as well. Brexit allowed the UK to fix the conflicting laws.
