🚨 Roy Keane on Paolo Maldini and Leonardo resigning from the Italian Football Federation: “I don’t like it one bit. To me, it’s childish. You don’t walk away from a project because you didn’t get your preferred manager. Football doesn’t work like that.” “People keep talking about loyalty and principles, and that’s fine. Stand by your opinion, argue your case, but once the decision is made, your job is to get on with it. That’s what leaders do. They don’t throw their toys out of the pram because things didn’t go their way.” “Maldini and Leonardo are football legends. Nobody questions what they’ve achieved as players, but this isn’t about reputations. This is about responsibility. Italy are trying to rebuild after years of disappointment, and they needed experienced football people to help steady the ship. Walking away after just a couple of weeks sends the wrong message to everyone involved.” “Not every decision in football is going to go your way. I’ve been in dressing rooms where managers, players and directors disagreed all the time. The best people don’t quit—they find a way to make it work. If you only stay when everyone agrees with you, then you’re in the wrong job.” “For me, it’s poor leadership. If you truly believed in rebuilding Italian football, you stay, you fight for your ideas and you prove your value over time. Leaving because your first choice wasn’t appointed? I can’t respect that. That’s not how strong football people operate.”
