In anticipation of our History of Gin tasting event on Friday here's a ginteresting gin fact...
William Hogarth’s ‘Beer Street’ and ‘Gin Lane’ celebrate the benefits of drinking beer compared to the destructive effects of gin 🍻🍸
The artist died #OnThisDay in 1764 ow.ly/A0cP30rgVFA
ALT A black and white print showing a group of people drinking beer from tankards outside a tavern. They represent a mixture of occupations, including fishmongers, painters, and tradesmen. Everyone is happy and content.
ALT A black and white print showing groups of people drinking gin. In the foreground a mother sits slumped on some stairs, with her clothes ripped open, as her child falls down the side of the staircase. Another figure sits next to her, emaciated and passed out. In the distance, coffins are being built and filled with bodies, as building topple and people fight in the streets.
