Today @Ghost crossed $10M ARR, as a bootstrapped non-profit foundation building open source software.
Indie publisher revenue earned with Ghost now ~$130M, and accelerating.
The world of technology is shifting rapidly, and so is the world of media, creators and journalism. It's hard to keep up with, and even harder to predict.
My strong belief, though, is that open software that you own and control is going to be even more important and relevant in the future than it is now.
So we're going to keep building it.

Publisher revenue is growing even faster!
Now more than $120M GMV earned by writers and journalists using the product to fund their work

We've now generated over $136M from free, open source software with @Ghost π
$36M in revenue from managed hosting
$100M in platform revenue for indie publishers
The ecosystem is growing really quickly at this point, and really excited about where things are heading next.
For a while it felt like the entire web was moving toward big centralized platforms β but as subscription businesses grow larger we consistently see that people want to run their own platform and have full control.
Extremely bullish on publishers using Ghost, but also the future of open, shared infrastructure more broadly.
It's taken 12 years to get to this point as a bootstrapped non-profit org with no outside funding, but the position we're in now is pretty remarkable:
Other platforms have hundreds of millions of dollars in VC debt to repay, and shareholders to enrich.
We don't.
We can just keep reinvesting 100% of what we make into improving the product.
That's going to create some really interesting asymmetric market dynamics over the next few years.

Tinybird is the analytics platform for Ghost 6.0 π» π€ π¦
Earlier this week, @Ghost announced their 6.0 release, with real-time web analytics powered by Tinybird. We're very proud to partner with Ghost and support their independent, open source publishing platform.
Our favorite part of the 6.0 release is how Ghost's engineers deeply integrated Tinybird regardless of how you deploy.
Using Ghost(Pro)? Web analytics are enabled by default and automatically on.
Self-hosting? Ghost engineers integrated the full Tinybird setup flow into Docker compose, so it's just 4 commands and you're up and running.
Whether you choose hosted or self-hosted, you get fast and rich analytics without really needing to know anything about Tinybird.
But, underneath the pretty charts is a solid architecture that Ghost has built to support real-time analytics for their large-scale, distributed publishing platform.
We took some time to dig deep into the code base and analyze the architecture choices they made to be able to support hundreds of millions of pageviews every month, and we share that analysis here π tbrd.co/ghost-6-0-tech

Monday: @Ghost launches 6.0 with real-time analytics by Tinybird
Wednesday: Build an agent to tell you what blog posts to write next. π
Powered by @tinybird MCP server and @aisdk
I'm enjoying playing around with all of the various agent frameworks like Agno, Pydantic, AI SDK, etc.
I wrote a blog post about using the @aisdk by @vercel alongside the @tinybird MCP server to build an agent that can analyze the performance of a blog hosted on @Ghost.
As with most agents, the real work is in the prompt engineering. But Tinybird's MCP Server is pretty powerful even with bad prompting, because it exposes both server-side agents and API endpoints as tools.
So, for example, my agent might be lost when it comes to understanding the model of my data in Tinybird, but it can just call the explore_data tool from Tinybird MCP and let the server side agent (who has all the underlying context about my Tinybird resources), go and figure things out.
(This explore_data tool is actually what underpins the Tinybird Explorations feature)
Also, since every API is exposed as a tool, my agent has a pretty good idea of how to answer common questions. If I want to know which of my blogs got the most pageviews over the last 30 days, it can skip the text-to-sql and just fetch my top_pages API. This is assisted by the fact that every Tinybird resource includes a natural language description in its metadata - perfect for agent discovery.
If you're building agents with data, maybe you can learn something.
