We are excited to be partnering with the Lions Club in collecting glasses and hearing aids during the month of October. These will be "fixed" and passed on to people who need them. The Lions Club was founded in 1917 in Chicago in response to social problems and the rapid industrialization created by World War 1. They became international in 1920. In 1925, at the Lions International Convention, they had a special guest speaker--her name was Helen Keller. At the end of her speech, she challenged the audience with these words, "I appeal to you Lions, you who have your sight, your hearing, you who are strong and brave and kind. Will you not constitute yourselves Knights of the Blind in this crusade against darkness?" For over 100 years, those words have inspired Lions Clubs across the world to fight against the darkness. Everyone LOVES a bargain! We have 2 clearance areas in our store. One is near the grocery clearance endcap located at the end of the bulk isle across from the freezers. The other clearance area is for Natural Living products. Those racks are located next to the My Moss Sea Moss refrigerator. Let's talk about what "clearance" means at Georgetown Market. Are the products outdated? No. The products maybe short dated, but we go through the products and remove anything that actually has an expired date. The most common reason for a product to be in the clearance area (other than expiring) is that we brought it in and it just didn't sell. If it is a slow seller, we want to move it out and bring in new, interesting products. In grocery, sometimes it was brought in for a sale endcap and it is leftover and we just need to move it out.
