I wrote a little novel during the pandemic and finally got around to self-publishing it. It’s a medieval adventure/rebellion story, set on the south Mediterranean coast, with a few battles and a journey. There’s a free sample if you want to check it out! amazon.com/Shield-Brighter-T…
Probably not healthy either that so many people want to send bombs to, or bomb, countries they don’t live in.

I can’t stop thinking, tonight, about this Louise Glück poem, just astounded at how sad it is, and yet still how in love with the world
But he IS the same person.
Very few humans would ever do what he has done. There is a very good argument that he should indeed have a sign on his forehead so that women can choose whether or not to be directly exposed to the risk that be poses to them.

Dawn in Santiago de Compostela, Galicia, Spain, early October 2026. The cathedral was completed in 1211 AD, the oak tree on the left is about 300 years old. They have faced each other across many dawns :

Today, Robert E. Hall was awarded the 2026 Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences.
This is from a statement he released after the announcement:
I’m only surprised it isn’t the Superbowl half-time show

“It implies that Israel created the conditions that brought about October 7 itself.”
Uh yeah Israel did create the conditions that brought about October 7 itself. Only someone who thinks Palestinians are zoo animals would dispute it.
I take issue with much of the criticism leveled at Mayor Mamdani’s October 7 statement—not because it is undeserved, but because I believe it misses the deeper implication and is therefore far too mild.
His assertion that “the suffering did not begin nor end that day,” coupled with his references to occupation and apartheid, reads to me as more than a condemnation of Israel’s response. It implies that Israel created the conditions that brought about October 7 itself.
That implicit assignment of blame to the victims is what deserves the strongest condemnation.
Mamdani blames Israel (!) for October 7th itself.

Take a moment, stop scrolling, and read a poem.
This poem, by the great and grossly misunderstood Emily Dickinson, is one of my favorites and one of the few poems I have memorized.
Great to see a local business providing the space for this :

200 years ago today in Trinity (🧵): circuit court was sitting this week and Slade & Kelson self-reports a victory over their mercantile rivals. This appears to have been a civil jury trial. Sadly, our current rules of civil procedure make such trials almost impossible to obtain
These are empty words, as the UK still enables Israel’s genocide and persecutes those who assist the resistance.

If this technology had been developed anytime between c1900 and c2005, the Canadian government of the day would have imposed oversight and regulation. The power of the civil law to impose accountability, consequences and reform is all we have left:

I remember being at the 2001 Labour Party conference after 9/11 when Blair famously said he would make fighting for justice for Gaza one of his causes.
Today this dishonest, greedy man with so much Arab blood on his hands pushes pro-Israel, pro-genocide narratives about Gaza.
Tony Blair on Gaza:
There is talk of free Palestine, but for Palestinians living in Gaza, they don't need a slogan; they need a solution.
To be free, Gaza must live in peace with its neighbors and with itself.
And this cannot happen if it's governed by those who use Gaza as a base for war against a neighbor it has no chance of defeating.
Very good work by @GarySpedding - let’s see what CBC does with this.
I have submitted a formal complaint to the CBC Ombudsman regarding @NEWSneil's thread below.
For transparency I am attaching the complaint here.
