Historian of fascism here. This is an escalation of an attempt to normalize extreme violence, ritualize violence, militarize the country, and make violence entertaining so when they ask you to commit violence in their name, you will be ready.
Trump & Hegseth aren't just proposing to livestream an execution for people who want to watch. They're proposing to broadcast a man being shot to death, even if deserved by our system, and even if you agree with this version of the death penalty, knowing that the footage will be clipped, shared, and pushed into social media feeds. Including those of our children. The gruesome image will be everywhere. Parents will have virtually no control over whether their kids see it. Once those images are released, there is no taking them back. Hope all the parents in the Trump Admin are cool with that.

I spelled out "superpower suicide" in this essay from May 2026. Empires have risen and failed before, but to my knowledge no state has ever chosen to kill its own power, and succeeded with such rapidity. snyder.substack.com/p/on-sup…
Tim Snyder: The term that I came up with… is superpower suicide. I just can’t see an example of a major country losing so much power so quickly as the United States under Trump. We’ve encouraged our enemies and we’ve made our allies not trust us.

Up until the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the USSR maintained an extensive bioweapons capability. Ken Alibek (aka Alibekov) defected to the U.S., debriefed the CIA and wrote a book about it called Biohazard. But it was never clear what was dismantled with Russia under Putin. I don’t have any inside baseball on this, but it was a reason I became concerned when DHHS under RFK Jr dismantled our pandemic preparedness and cut off vaccine development. It was tone deaf to the bioweapons from our enemies. People forget that it was both flu and the threat of bioterrorism that led DA Henderson and PK Russell to build BARDA for new countermeasures. Guessing this will be contained but it’s a wake up call that our national biosecurity is being dismantled and we’re vulnerable

Washington needs a good power washing top to bottom. Five things I would do today to end corruption in Washington across all three branches of government: 1. Ban all stock trading. 2. Ban all participation in prediction markets. 3. Mandatory retirement at 75 years old. 4. Mandatory blind trust for individuals with a net worth more than $1 million. 5. Ban all foreign gifts to public officials, including foreign investments in their businesses or other entities.

People are asking me whether we've turned the corner. It depends whether humanity uses this moment to jolt into action, or whether we just shrug it off. But for the first time in a long time, it feels to me like we have a chance.

Recent high profile AI incidents show that no amount of vetting, testing and disclosures of advanced AI models can create a fail safe system for all circumstances. This is why Congress needs to pass the bipartisan AI Kill Switch Bill this term.
"We’ve had people way back to Alan Turing in 1951 warning about the loss of control, that artificial intelligence will start breaking out and lying and deceiving... What’s really new is this is now actually starting to happen. This is one of those moments where a lot of people need to see it." -FLI co-founder @tegmark in @washingtonsun 🔗⬇️

Awesome that Moran and Lieu are introducing a kill switch act. Crazy that there isn't an off switch for AI already, even as companies race to create superintelligence despite blatant misalignment.
Rep Moran and I introduced the AI Kill Switch Act today. This is urgent, common sense legislation to address the problem of an advanced AI model that has gone rogue and escaped its guardrails (OpenAI / Hugging Face incident) or had insufficient guardrails (Mythos 5 and Fable 5).

What he says might be true…on the other hand it might not. It’s impossible to trust any statement coming out of DHHS. That’s not a judgement, it’s a simple reality. Let’s review the track record: since Q1 2025 they’ve made the following public pronouncements all fake, and knowingly fake: 1. Vaccines cause autism, 2. Same with aluminum or Tylenol, 3. Vaccines contaminated with aborted fetal remnants, 4. Measles hospitalizations in W Texas due to quarantine or isolation, 5. You can take Vitamin A, budesonide, clarithromycin instead, 6. “Leaky” vaccine or declines in protection 4% annually, 7. Canceled mRNA contracts despite their proven safety and efficacy, 8. Said there was no placebo testing for vaccines when I put up several pages listing all the vaccines tested in placebo controlled studies, 9. Forced unnecessary quarantines among Americans who did not have hantavirus…so much for “health freedom,”10. Waged war against biomedical journals that countered the pseudoscience from the corrupt wellness influencers, 11. Issued a conspiratorial MAHA Commission Report that’s little more than a thinly veiled PR pamphlet for the corrupt wellness influencer industry, 12. Halted most pandemic preparedness efforts in the U.S. we now have no plan for what happens when the next zoonotic spillover event occurs or next big arbovirus, 13. Demoralized the NIH to cause a significant exodus of some of its best talent, same with CDC, FDA…guess I’ll pause for now..

America can best mark the sad and untimely passing of Senator Lindsey Graham by sanctioning Russia and rededicating to the victory of Ukraine. Senator Graham just yesterday spoke in Ukraine about working to end Putin’s brutal war which is filled with civilian atrocities and lies. Let’s honor Senator Graham’s fierce support for Ukraine against Putin and his war crimes.

Jill and I are shocked by the sudden passing of Lindsey Graham. Lindsey and I served together in Congress for over a decade, and worked closely on many issues throughout the years. We traveled the world together as members of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. We disagreed often, and sometimes loudly. Lindsey and I did agree on the profound importance of public service. Like me, he loved the Senate as an institution, even with all its flaws and complexities. To his family, his staff, his constituents in South Carolina, and everyone who loved him: Jill and I are keeping you in our prayers.

The aorta doesn't get enough respect. Even though it's uncommon, in someone who presents with chest pain, especially severe, we were trained to rule out aortic dissection before anything else. Most likely Senator Graham had a Type A dissection and longstanding hypertension. If obtained previously, an echocardiogram or other image may have revealed a widening or aneurysm of the thoracic aorta. nature.com/articles/nrdp2016…
