On average, Boomers are getting paid more from Social Security than they “paid into it.” A lot more. Like double, and that’s counting inflation and interest. In raw dollars, they’ll get four to seven times what they paid in. So what about this compromise, to at least stave off insolvency and save billions: you get back what you paid in, but no more. Young families won’t be forced to finance a 250 percent return on your “investment.” That seems extremely reasonable, doesn’t it? It doesn’t go nearly as far as I would like. But it’s a very fair compromise. It completely negates any claim that you didn’t get the money back that you “paid in.” And yet I suspect that this comprise will not be satisfactory. Why is that? Because this debate actually has nothing to do with “getting back what you paid in.” The REAL demand is for a lot more than that.
The only way they can honor that plan is by stealing money from people like me. Have you thought about maybe living below your means?
It is not satisfactory. It’s absolute bullshit. Had anyone known that this was the plan we would’ve not paid in to a shitty Social Security system with such a poor return on investment we would’ve been able to put our money in other places in the market and done significantly better at no point Should the plan change on anybody once it’s been established you can’t pull the rug out from underneath the people at the last minute. If you want to change the system, then change it for future people, for the people that the plan was created for it needs to be honored

You’re losing me. I’m a boomer. I paid the full amount for forty years. My employers paid even more with their match. Then we pay Medicare premiums which do not include dental, vision or prescriptions. Between the two I paid more than $700k. Had I been allowed to invest that same money I would be much better off. Baby boomers couldn't invest? First I've heard of it. Both of my grandparents invested outside of social security. Neither of them needed social security before they passed away, they just set aside a chunk of what they made for retirement. Unlike a lot of stupid boomers.
