Last week I had the opportunity to participate in the Innovation Workshop on Water Quality Monitoring & Assessment organized by @WMO @UNEP @UNESCO @GemsWaterCDC @UN_WWQA @iaeaorg and @EU_Commission
65 selected participants, 39 different countries to discuss challenges in WQ
We here at UNEP GEMS/Water CDC have been busy lately: we are delighted to announce new versions of our technical guidance documents, available online for FREE!
Check out our newest guidebook, Introduction to Freshwater Quality Monitoring and Assessment
wedocs.unep.org/handle/20.50…
We also have guidebooks on Water Quality Monitoring and Assessment in Rivers, Lakes & Reservoirs; the same for Groundwater; and Quality Assurance for Freshwater Monitoring
The full collection is here: ucc.ie/en/gemscdc/onlinecour…
These guidebooks provide an overview broad enough to be suitable for those new to the water sector, but they are also in-depth and high quality enough to be useful even to seasoned professionals. And, they're FREE to download and use as needed!

Curious about the situation of water quality in Zimbabwe? We spoke with one of our Continuous Professional Development students, Onesmus Kativhu, about exactly this, and what he's doing to help.

But our professional development courses can help: people like Onesmus are expanding their expertise in water quality monitoring, which will provide better information to policy-makers, allowing for more coordinated approaches to water quality
And speaking of professional development, we are accepting students for courses in the autumn--the deadline is July 31, and both reduced fees and bursaries are available. For individuals in developing countries, the cost can be as low as ZERO

Felicidades - Congrats to Maria Jose @AmazoniaUNAL @IrelandColombia a great example of cooperation UCC - Colombia:
Replying to @GemsWaterCDC
Maria Jose is a wonderful example of capacity development in action: she started as a civil engineering student but was inspired to switch to environmental engineering after learning more about the world's environmental problems. Her work has taken her deep into the Amazon...
For the past few months, GEMS/Water CDC has been focused on #data. We have a scoping report on global #waterquality data forthcoming, and we’re updating our instructional materials on that topic. That includes updates to our NOW OPEN CPD COURSE on data: ucc.ie/en/cpd/options/scienc…
In our data scoping report, we interviewed professionals from around the world and found systemic issues with data handling. Put simply, we are not making the most of the monitoring data we gather. You can read more about this here: ucc.ie/en/gemscdc/news/gemsw…
If you are in the #waterquality monitoring sector and find that your organisation has problems with data interoperability, database management, storage, assessment and/or visualisation, check out our CPD course--and with our reduced fees and bursaries, the cost to you can be zero
Interested in #waterquality? Take a look at how one of GEMS/Water CDC's #professionaldevelopment students is developing her skills while working with indigenous groups to improve water quality in the Amazon. #sdg6 #waterqualitymonitoring
We are delighted to share this morning a feature on one of our professional development students, Maria Jose from Colombia #waterquality #watermonitoring ucc.ie/en/gemscdc/news/gemsw…
This is how @UCC @uccBEES @UCCInt has an impact around the world!

But this kind of work needs to happen everywhere if we are to improve global water quality and meet #SDG targets. Maria Jose's current course in freshwater monitoring with biota and particular matter is one step on the long road of capacity development: ucc.ie/en/gemscdc/onlinecour…
