Cutting doctors’ pay won’t keep them in the NHS.
The DDRB must show its independence and recommend what patients and the NHS need, not what the Government is prepared to pay.

At Labour Party Conference in Liverpool. Plenty that they need consultants for. But no change to our bottom lines on pay and DDRB reform. @BMA_Consultants @trentconsultant @Andrew_Jordan_

It's encouraging to see @fbunational members sharing our concerns over the use of PAs & AAs in the NHS. Today we thank them for passing their motion, highlighting the impact of deskilling a public sector workforce where expertise in public safety is crucial.

ALT Screen shot of a letter from BMA Council chair Prof Phil Banfield to Matt Wrack, General Secretary of the Fire Brigades union. The letter thanks the union for passing a motion on the concerns shared over PAs and AAs working in the NHS and the impact a substitution of doctors with non-medically trained staff has on patient safety.

31/ It's becoming increasingly clear to me that failure to address pay erosion in the NHS is an existential threat to the NHS itself.
A poll recently (by pro-gov Daily Mail), showed most important @rishisunak's 5 priorities- is REDUCE WAITING TIMES- even in Tory voters in 2019

30/ Indeed @thebma have been crystal clear with the DDRB & government
"IF THE 2024/25 pay award following the DDRB process is UNACCEPTABLE, they would take FURTHER REPEAT STRIKE ACTION to secure the pay awards their skills and expertise deserve."
You HAVE been warned

29/ .@thebma have been clear with the DDRB that even if new ToRs for DRRB are voted through "DDRB must take these into account now for the 2024/25 round, particularly IF WE WISH TO AVOID FURTHER INDUSTRIAL DISPUTES."

28/ So I have gone into some detail about the "past", now we must turn to the future. And the future is @payreviewbodies i.e. the "DDRB".
@bma_consultants are still voting on the changes to DDRB (which affect all doctors), & have submitted evidence 👇

27/ I need to state that I have only charted "junior" & consultant pay as they have the best data which are "official stats". SAS grade doctors (who voted 'no' to their deal) & GPs (yesterday voted 99% to reject their imposition) have seen similar, if not worse & are more complex

26/ And again like I did above with public satisfaction, lets take the medical satisfaction line (left; orange) and transpose it to the pay chart (right; black).
Its easy to see what is going on here. Deliberate destruction of pay causes destruction of service & satisfaction😔

25/ The official staff survey data report only went back to 2019 above, but I have trawled the data back to the start of austerity and its more *SHOCKING*
Pay satisfaction has fallen off a cliff, nonemoreso than for doctors = the largest falls since 2019 = recipe for MORE IA👇
