🚨🚨Sir Alex Ferguson shares how Cristiano Ronaldo called him first to reveal his decision to retire from international football: 🗣️ Sir Alex: “When Cristiano’s name appeared on my phone, I answered the way I usually do. ‘How many have you scored now?’ Normally, he laughs straight away. This time, he said, ‘Boss, I need to tell you something.’ So I put the television on mute. ‘I’ve decided to finish with Portugal. Before the announcement, before everybody starts talking, I wanted you to hear it from me first.’ I let him speak. He spoke about the shirt. His family. How long he had been carrying this decision around. Then he asked me something that caught me off guard. ‘Do you think it’s the right time?’ Even after everything he has achieved, he still wanted his old manager’s opinion. That meant a great deal to me. I said, ‘Cristiano, I can help you with a lot of things. Knowing when you’re ready to take that shirt off has to come from you.’ He told me he felt ready. But I could hear how much it hurt. You spend your whole life fighting to get into that team. Nobody prepares you for the day you have to leave it. I asked him, ‘Have you thought about what you’re leaving behind?’ He started talking about the goals. I interrupted him. ‘Think a little harder, son.’ Think about the children who wore your name on their backs before they could properly spell it. Think about the families who gathered around a television because you were playing. Think about how many young Portuguese players walked into a dressing room, saw you sitting there, and suddenly stood a little taller. You gave that country someone to believe in for years. Through disappointment, through criticism, through nights when the whole world seemed to be watching your next touch. You kept coming back. Portugal will have wonderful players after you. I hope they do. You hope they do. But every one of them will grow up knowing what Cristiano Ronaldo did in that shirt. That belongs to you forever. There was a little silence. Then he said, ‘Thank you, boss. I needed to hear that.’ I gave him a moment. Then I said, ‘Right. Now, let’s make sure we understand each other.’ ‘About what?’ ‘This retirement business. You’re talking about Portugal.’ He started laughing. He knew where I was going. ‘There’s still the small matter of a thousand goals.’ ‘You haven’t forgotten?’ ‘Forgotten? I’m expecting you to finish the job.’ I told him, ‘You can have your farewell with Portugal. You can cry, exchange shirts, wave to the crowd. You’ve earned every second of that. But you’re not putting those boots away until you’ve scored a thousand.’ He laughed properly then. And suddenly I could hear the young lad again. The one who always thought there was another goal in him, even when I was pointing at the bench. ‘Still giving me orders, boss?’ ‘Apparently somebody has to.’ Before we hung up, I told him how proud I was. I wanted him to hear those words clearly. Then I added one final instruction. ‘When that thousandth goal goes in, I expect another phone call.’ ‘You’ll get it, boss.’ He said I told him he has to win the bloody match as well.’”

Liverpool Football Club are devastated by the tragic passing of Diogo Jota.

Don Cowie started his playing career @RossCounty and went on to have a brilliant career which included playing for Scotland and in the English Premier League. Now he has started his managerial career at the same club and is doing an unbelievable job. So impressed with him.
