Including the disastrous 2018-19 season when they got Kovalchuk and everything fell apart, I think this is the worst the #LAKings have looked since they drafted Doughty.

A message to all sane Republicans: He pardoned 1,600 violent criminals. You said nothing. He bulldozed the East Wing. You said nothing. He interfered with the release of the Epstein files. You said nothing. He took over the Kennedy Center and renamed it after himself. You said nothing. He accepted a $400 million airplane as a personal gift. You said nothing. He threatened Canada, Cuba, Denmark, Greenland, Venezuela, Colombia, and Brazil. You said nothing. He tariffed just about everyone but Russia, causing inflation and instability worldwide. You said nothing. He attacked a nation during mediated negotiations. You said nothing. His ill-conceived war killed 175 children on day one. You said nothing. He alienated and insulted our allies. You said nothing. His ICE Army terrorized and murdered U.S. citizens. You said nothing. He committed murder on the high seas. You said nothing. He co-opted the Justice Department and directed it to prosecute his political enemies. You said nothing. It's time to start talking!!!
It's long overdue!!!!
Funny enough, I was thinking it's time the United States got a new president.

Best argument for term limits I’ve ever heard. “I can’t do my constitutional role of protecting the country because I am afraid I might lose a seat where my job is to protect the country.”
It’s kinda disgusting. You swore an oath for God’s sake.
"In his book, Tillis writes that at least 30 Republican senators have expressed reservations about many of Mr. Trump's actions, but usually are only willing to speak up privately, fearing that if POTUS decides to target them, their days will be numbered"

I went and saw The Uprising last night. Good flick! As I watched I thought "this is such a good English story, how have they not covered it on @TheRestHistory?" And then as the story progressed, I realized that I knew what would happen because of course they told this tale!
So I went back and listened to this episodes afterward and I gotta say, I hope you lads (@holland_tom & @dcsandbrook) are getting a little taste of those box office receipts because it's basically a cinematic version of the podcast!
Down to the fact that it's a Robin Hood movie and you guys pointed out that the Peasant Rebellion took place right around the time those ballads were starting! I can't help but wonder if Paul Greengrass is also a #therestishistoryclub member.
Went back and listened to the first few @TheRestHistory episodes today from 2020. It's like the first season of Seinfeld, there's something there but not quite the later magic. Oh that 2020 election episode is depressing today. @dcsandbrook @holland
I would challenge the answer @holland_tom gives to the question of why Sulla didn't go on to become the first emperor, at least to some extent. Augustus took advantage of a weary populace beaten down by 6 decades of brutal civil war and ready to hand over liberty for stability.
Replying to @dccommonsense
@dccommonsense Dan, I'd love your take on this thought i just had. Trump has shaken confidence in the US to the point that our oldest and strongest ally 🇨🇦 feels it has to look elsewhere. Some say it could take a generation to fix the damage he's done to our national reputation
The irony of it all is that the NPC known as @elonmusk thinks it's for free speech but it's so constrained by its programming it tries to stifle real people.

One of the most radical -- and reprehensible -- Obama policies was John Brennan's CIA drone assassination program based on the claimed right to eradicate anyone remotely suspected of terrorist ties: all with no process or evidentiary burden of any kind. Most of the time, they had no idea who they were killing, and we know they murdered large numbers of innocent people in multiple countries (including ones at wedding parties and funerals).
At least the Obama officials had the excuse -- frivolous though it was -- of acting under the authority of the "War on Terror." There is not even an arguable legal basis for blowing up small boats in international waters, which Trump and Hegseth have been doing for a year by invoking some vague "War on Drugs" theory. If you suspect these boats carry drugs, they're so easy to interdict with the Coast Guard (as @RandPaul notes, the Coast Guard often finds no drugs on boats they strongly suspect of carrying them).
I'm sure it's exciting for many to watch these grainy images of the mighty US military blowing up small boats and killing people, even when it turns out they're just ordinary fisherman. It provides some vicarious sense of power for those who feel powerless. But it's precisely this king of ongoing arrogant assertion of unilateral, unlimited global police power that alienates so much of the world (and has had literally no effect on drug demand or availability inside the US).
"This operation is a clear and decisive reminder that SOUTHCOM is taking the fight directly to the cartels."
On August 23, under #SOUTHCOM Commander Gen. Francis L. Donovan’s direction, Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere executed a lethal kinetic strike on a low-profile vessel operating along established narco-trafficking routes in the Eastern Pacific. Confirmed intelligence revealed the vessel's active involvement in narco-trafficking. The operation killed two narco-terrorists.
"When I ordered the establishment of Joint Task Force Western Hemisphere, it was precisely for this purpose: to accelerate, synchronize, and execute lethal actions against these destabilizing narco-terrorist networks. We are committed to imposing total systemic friction on narco-terrorists -- disrupting their operations, dismantling their leadership, and eliminating cartel terror across the region." Gen. Donovan said.
“Let me be clear, we will not permit narco-terrorists to operate with impunity in the Western Hemisphere, nor will we allow their deadly poison to reach American communities. This operation is a powerful demonstration of our lethal precision, overwhelming capability, and absolute resolve to protect the U.S. homeland," Gen. Donovan said.

A useful clarification is that this conclusion that unilateral stopping is rational is not obvious nor some kind of tautology: it depends on how dangerous the situation is. We’ve seen a lot of danger recently!

Industry coordination is way better than that! U.S. federal laws could be better still! International treaties are even better than that! But those might take time, even years, and it is not clear we have that time.

I don’t think it is rational for anyone to be doing capabilities research at a frontier lab right now. We are not in a Prisoners Dilemma: the situation is very dangerous, and if one person or lab stops it makes it easier and more peer-compatible for other people or labs to stop.

The @LAKings have signed Perry and Zuccarello to free agent contracts today. Their combined age is 80. Are you fucking kidding me?
The @nyknicks won the #nbafinals for the first time since 1973, a 53-year gap between championships. That means they beat their hapless MSG stablemate @NYRangers 1940-94 #StanleyCup drought by a year! Congratulations, Knickerbockers, you're marginally less pathetic than the Rags!
