🚨Gary Neville on Pedri’s performance against Cape Verde in Spain’s 2026 FIFA World Cup opener: 🗣️ “That was a really disappointing performance from Pedri. When you wear the Spain shirt at a World Cup, the standards are incredibly high, and he was nowhere near them today. He looked off the pace, struggled to influence the game and never seemed to find any rhythm. Instead of controlling the midfield, he spent large parts of the match chasing the game and getting involved in unnecessary physical battles. At times it looked more like a wrestling contest than a football match. The timing of his challenges wasn’t right, his passing wasn’t sharp and he kept giving possession away in dangerous areas. For a player of his quality, that’s simply not good enough. Spain needed leadership, creativity and composure from their midfield. They got very little of that. Cape Verde made life difficult, but the top players still have to find solutions. Pedri is a fantastic footballer, nobody is questioning that. But this was one of those performances he’ll want to forget quickly. Very poor. Very frustrating. And by his own standards, a really embarrassing display.” {@SkyNews }
