The Election Commission’s latest order for a special drive after the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) is a clear admission of guilt! After arbitrarily deleting crores of legitimate voters, the ECI is now scrambling to cover up its massive failure. Instead of fixing their flawed methodology, they are pushing thousands of Booth Level Officers, the majority of whom are school teachers, into complete exhaustion, heavily impacting classroom teaching and student education. Patchwork drives will not fix a deeply compromised process. The ECI must immediately scrap the unconstitutional SIR process entirely and restore all deleted voters! Met Smt. Sonia Rajinder Deepa ji today and expressed my solidarity with her and the family. Is standing with a poor Dalit family in their fight for justice now a crime in Punjab? Is raising your voice for a family allegedly denied the right to perform their son’s last rites reason enough to be put behind bars? The arrest of @rajinderdeepa ji and the detention of Sanamdeep Singh’s family, along with the reported invocation of non-bailable provisions, raise serious concerns about the @AAPPunjab government’s treatment of democratic dissent. Intimidation cannot be the answer to a demand for justice. A government must protect the rights of its citizens, not punish those who stand with the vulnerable. I have written to the @DGPPunjabPolice, seeking permission to meet Rajinder Deepa ji and late Sanamdeep Singh’s family. CM @BhagwantMann repeatedly invokes his identity as a “teacher’s son” for political optics, yet his government treats Punjab’s teachers with utter contempt. Government kothis remain occupied and entertained by “Delhi wale” bosses, while ETT teachers fighting for their legitimate recruitment rights and regularisation are met with zero dialogue, zero respect and brutal police action. Why is there no conversation with the government teachers who are the backbone of Punjab’s future? Is the voice of Punjab’s youth irrelevant once you enter the corridors of power in Chandigarh? Peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right. Using police force to silence teachers while refusing to hear their legitimate demands exposes the hypocrisy and policy failure of @AAPPunjab government. The handling and cremation of Sanamdeep Singh ji raises a grave question: who gave the State the right to deny a family the final farewell to their loved one? Article 21 protects human dignity even after death. Families have a right to perform the last rites of their loved ones in accordance with their faith and traditions. We saw what happened with Gulzar Singh. Now, the handling of Sanamdeep Singh ji’s cremation raises serious questions once again. Gulzar Singh. Sanamdeep Singh. The State cannot use its power to silence families, disregard their faith or suppress dissent. This is not just politics.
