You can find all my music recommendations in this enormous (and great!) Spotify playlist: open.spotify.com/playlist/7x… And follow me on Instagram for the latest music recs, because I'm going to move away from Twitter and this 7-year-old thread: instagram.com/gabrieljr
I'm going to start a music recommendation thread so I can start organizing all the songs I love and want you to love.

To be clear: Some facts are neither in dispute nor unclear. Our photographer was clearly marked as Press. She was clearly beaten. These are not partisan or risible statements, but indisputable. We urge a thorough investigation and accountability.
The Prime Minister’s Office: The facts surrounding the confrontation near Abu Falah, during which Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine was allegedly assaulted, remain unclear and are under investigation. Israel unequivocally condemns violence against anyone—Jews, Arabs, Christians or journalists. Those responsible will be held accountable. But serious questions remain. Reports indicate some 200 Arabs and far-left activists confronted approximately 40 Israeli youths. Footage shows masked individuals on both sides hurling objects, amid reports of fireworks fired at Jewish youths. Other footage appears to show Levine knocked down and immediately helped to her feet by the same unidentified individual. The investigation must establish the facts, including who initiated the violence. We will not allow disputed incidents to be exploited to demonize the hundreds of thousands of law-abiding Jewish residents of Judea and Samaria. The facts must determine the conclusions. Not the headlines.

Suzanne King at @thebeaconKC has been doing just excellent reporting on the very real issue of medical providers suing patients — it's far far bigger of an issue than just Roger Marshall.
The Kansas City hospital that sued a patient over a single unpaid medical bill defended its debt collection practices, saying it has a responsibility to protect its bottomline in an increasingly difficult healthcare landscape. buff.ly/3GC0iEI

The Kansas City Council yesterday passed three key pieces of legislation around rezoning and financing of the Royals downtown stadium. Mayor Quinton Lucas said the city has now passed all necessary legislation for the project. I break it all down: kcur.org/politics-elections-…

now we just need Reels to start showing everyone Creed's 2001 Thanksgiving halftime show
Apparently, Instagram really *was* suggesting "Higher" by Creed at a much higher rate than intended. I looked into it for @CNN. (No it's not happening with Soulja Boy.) cnn.com/2026/10/08/entertain…

Warner Bros not following through with two to three sequel films over the last 8 years is an all-time fumble.
First teaser for the ‘CRAZY RICH ASIANS’ sequel series. Constance Wu, Henry Golding, Ronny Chieng and Michelle Yeoh will reprise their roles. Coming soon to HBO Max.

My parents would really appreciate if you could get a direct flight to Pittsburgh. Thanks!
High on my wish list for new direct flights are:  1. Mexico City (essential) 2. Toronto 3. Honolulu 4. London (or any on Europe’s Westside) 5. Cleveland (the lake is nice and we love Kelce). Our team at KCI does great work for new flight options each day. More to come!

An explosive new lawsuit alleging that seven Chi Phi fraternity brothers gang-raped a student two years ago and that Cornell University did little to protect her in the aftermath rocked life on campus this month. The case, now known as “The Cornell Seven,” has also broken containment, quickly becoming a national issue. Students at ‘The Cornell Daily Sun’ have been there covering every beat of the story. Senior editor Cereese Qusba spent months reporting on the case before breaking the news of the lawsuit on September 18. “What happened to me was horrific and deeply disturbing,” the plaintiff, who is only identified in court records as Jane Doe, told the ‘Sun’ exclusively. “Almost two years later, I still carry the weight of its impact every day and night.” For the past two weeks, reporters at the student paper have been relentlessly chasing follow-ups, from the administration’s response to the district attorney’s office reopening its criminal investigation and the larger fallout in Ithaca. The ‘Sun’ also published a blistering editorial, printing the names of the accused men and taking the university to task for its lack of transparency. Throughout it all, the team has approached this case with care and moral clarity. Qusba and editor-in-chief Sophia Dasser discuss their work, how the editorial came together, and what’s next in their reporting: nymag.visitlink.me/HQ7GoI

Layoffs at the @KCStar will hurt Kansas City and its communities, full stop. Many of these reporters are friends of us here at KCUR. Today's episode of our podcast Kansas City Today is about why losing local journalists makes local governments worse. kcur.org/podcast/kansas-city…

Pivot to AI slop instead of actual watchdog journalism? McClatchy won't save itself from the poor decisions of overpaid execs who don't care about their communities.
A week after McClatchy laid off journalists nationwide, the newspaper chain announced their replacements: Editors for a new “innovation lab” focused on AI-generated lifestyle articles. “Celebrating Our Team,” execs wrote in an email about the hires. san.com/cc/inside-a-newspape…

Traveling to Nashville for the first time since the pandemic next week — what restaurants and places should I try? I've done some of the Big Tourist Things before and yes, I plan to avoid Broadway this time around.

On Sept. 10, The Kansas City Star's parent company McClatchy laid off six of our union members. These journalists have given their energy and empathy to The Star and its readers, and we want to give back to them. gofundme.com/f/support-laid-…

What does a company do before making draconian layoffs? If you're the suits at @McClatchy, you grow your already bloated bureaucracy. In an email today headlined "August New Hires," the company adds 9 to payroll: 3 Vice-Presidents and another 3 "Content Directors."
