A duck walks into a bar and orders a pint of beer and a ham sandwich.
The barman looks at him and says, “Hang on… you’re a duck.”
“I see your eyes are working,” replies the duck.
“And you can talk!” exclaims the barman.
“I see your ears are working too,” says the duck. “Now, if you don’t mind, can I have my beer and sandwich?”
“Certainly. Sorry about that,” says the barman as he pours the pint. “It’s just that we don’t get many ducks in here. What are you doing around this way?”
“I’m working on the building site across the road,” explains the duck. “I’m a plasterer.”
The barman is amazed, but the duck pulls a newspaper out of his bag and starts reading, making it clear the conversation is over.
He drinks his beer, eats his sandwich, says goodbye, and leaves.
The same thing happens every day for the next two weeks.
Then one day, the circus comes to town.
The ringmaster stops into the bar for a drink, and the barman says,
“You’re with the circus, aren’t you? I know a duck who’d be perfect for your show. He talks, drinks beer, eats sandwiches, reads the newspaper… the lot!”
“Sounds marvelous,” says the ringmaster, handing over his business card. “Tell him to give me a call.”
So the next day, when the duck comes into the pub, the barman says, “Hey, Mr. Duck, I think I can line you up with a great job. Good money, too.”
“I’m always interested in the next job,” says the duck. “Where is it?”
“At the circus,” replies the barman.
“The circus?” asks the duck.
“That’s right.”
“The circus… with the big tent?”
“Yep.”
“With all the animals in cages and the performers living in caravans?”
“Exactly.”
“And the tent has canvas sides and a big canvas roof with a hole in the middle?”
“That’s the one,” says the barman.
The duck looks at him in complete confusion and says…
“What the hell would they need a plasterer for?”

MAGA authoritarianism is pretending the president is “joking” when he makes death threats, but comedians are somehow “shaping public policy” when they make jokes.

If you think the fucking badass Secret Service of the United States, after keeping the first black president safe for 8 years in office without major incident, has now screwed up royally FOUR TIMES securing Trump?
You’re not real bright.

I'm tired of grocery stores asking me if I want to round up to end world hunger.
You're a $10 Billion corporation and I'm out here using a coupon to save 50 cents on a bag of potatoes.
Why don't YOU donate to end world hunger.

When Trump leaves office:
The Department of War will go back to being the Defense Department.
The Trump Kennedy Center will go back to being the Kennedy Center.
The Gulf of America will once again be the Gulf of Mexico.
The unfinished East Wing (it won't be finished by the end of Trump's term) will be rebuilt by the next president, and it will not be a ballroom.
Federal agencies packed with unqualified loyalists will fire those people and rehire the career experts Trump fired.
The Department of Justice will go back to enforcing the law instead of protecting the president.
Scientific agencies like NOAA, the EPA, and the CDC will go back to publishing research without political interference.
The U.S. will re-align with its allies and not with its enemies.
The presidential pardon power will stop being used as a rewards program for loyalists.
Inspectors General will go back to investigating corruption instead of getting fired for it.
The White House press room will go back to having briefings, with real journalists and not podcasters.
U.S. foreign policy will stop revolving around flattering dictators.
And the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed.

You all know Trump can't put Kristi Noem on the street because that would be an admission he was wrong about her in the first place. So he makes up a fake Avengers job title like Shield Mistress of the Western Hemisphere and America suffers due to his narcissism.

A man walked into a dentist’s office late one evening.
The dentist looked up and asked, “Can I help you?”
The man said, “I think I’m a moth.”
The dentist frowned. “You don’t need a dentist. You need a psychiatrist.”
“I know,” the man said.
The dentist paused. “Then why did you come in here?”
The man looked back toward the door.
“The light was on.”

As you may have heard, “The Thing” has been added to the Library of Congress. We made the movie to push against the edges of what we could pull off, and it carries that strain in its bones. Seeing it now treated with the same care and reverence we had making it means a great deal to me and everyone who brought it to life.
I especially want to remember TK Carter, who brought heart and humor into that desolate, frozen place and should be standing here with us today sharing in this recognition.
Thank you to everyone who continues to keep it alive.
