PRIVILEGE: Failed Congressional candidate Alessandra Biaggi @Biaggi4NY is complaining that American taxpayers aren't willing to pay off her student loans. Alessandra is the privileged granddaughter of a US Congressman. She struggled through four of the most expensive private universities in the world in her pursuit of an education - finally graduating from Fordham Law School with $180,000 in student debt. Since then she's worked as a lawyer making over $832,684 between 2014 and 2023. Despite that, she elected not to even pay the interest on her loans causing the balance owed to balloon to $206,000. Ironically, at her first job, she made $273,684 as Assistant General Counsel for New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo. If she had remained in that job (without pay increases) she'd have made $2,463,156 to date. Instead, she chose to work in politics for Hillary Clinton's campaign making just $85,000 in 2016, and then served in the New York State Senate making just $110,000. Alessandra could have easily paid off her loans if she chose even making just $832,684 but she decided not to pay them off. She decided not to maximize her income by making $2.5M. She should be allowed to make those choices - but she shouldn't be allowed to expect taxpayers to pay for the loans she wasn't willing to pay off.
