It's amazing- and gratifying- to see the Government of India change course on Quality Control Orders. India has become a key champion of freer trade. Less domestic protections, more trade deals. linkedin.com/notifications/

In conversation with @govindethiraj, Gaurav Sansanwal, Fellow, India Chair, CSIS, Washington, D.C., breaks down how India is buying time in the tariff standoff while pushing ahead with a new era of trade diversification. From deals with the UAE, UK, and Australia to avoiding direct competition with China, this is a deep dive into how New Delhi is reshaping its economic strategy — and why the current turbulence with the US might just be a short-term blip. @GSansanwal

The UK FTA gives British firms preferred market access to India. US can’t be sitting on the sidelines— a fair and swift negotiation is in its best interest. Spoke with @SaroyaHem & @ShivanChanana for @WIONews.

The deal is definitely delayed- but likely not dead, as the two countries would need to negotiate their way out of this. #usindiatradedeal
#WATCH | On US President Donald Trump announcing 25% tariff, plus a penalty on India, fellow for the Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Gaurav Sansanwal says, "...This impacts a broad spectrum of sectors starting from electronics to pharma to refined petroleum products to gems and jewellery and those are important for India because India has a huge trade surplus with the US, so this is an irritant, but it is not permanent. This is a temporary negotiation tactic being used in a bilateral relationship, as far as we can assess. Therefore, this is not the final word on it. New Delhi would be watching this closely, they would also be working to try to negotiate a deal that makes this better from the Indian perspective as well..."

India may be feeling the heat of the tariffs, but U.S. consumers may have to pay the costs. #usindiatrade
#WATCH | On US President Donald Trump announcing 25% tariff, plus a penalty on India, fellow for the Chair on India and Emerging Asia Economics at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), Gaurav Sansanwal says, "...The negotiations are still ongoing. The US side is expected to still go out to India in mid of next month. This is a leverage being used in the negotiation process, and India is going to feel the heat, but we should remember that the costs will be passed on to the consumers. So both countries are actually feeling the cost, so this will, hopefully, set the stage for the trade deal to be fully negotiated in the coming weeks, which will negate the impact of the tariffs..."
